Here's a Spectator article which claims that the Ticats of the past four years are among the worst pro sports teams ever!

I don't think it's true, because the Ticats have had the lead in the fourth quarter in about half their losses this year. Still, four years is a long time to go without improvement in the won-loss record.

Ron Estay has serious cancer. He has taken a four-month leave of absence from the Riders.

He and I are the same age, and we both grew up in southern Louisiana. He told me that he went to South Lafourche High School. I met him at the 1978 Grey Cup when he played for the Eskimos.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Dominique Dorsey injured his knee and his ankle. It hasn't been determined how long he will be out - maybe three weeks, maybe the remainder of the year. The Argos have brought in Keith Stokes to take his spot on the roster (not that Stokes could fill Dorsey's shoes).

The Argos also cut Bethel Johnson, who was with the Patriots when they won the Super Bowl in 2004 and 2005.

Surprisingly good game. The Lions were the better team, but the Argos had the chance to pull it out in the last minute of the game.

The Argos were in the game because of two long TDs runs by Jamal Robertson.

Adriano Belli sung the National Anthem! He hit all the notes, sort of.

With the Argos' loss, the Lions and the Stampeders (and I suppose the Roughriders, but I haven't seen or heard a confirmation of that) clinched a playoff spot (the crossover spot).

Great game! Michael Bishop had a good night.

The Riders lead the Stampeders in point differential by one, with one more game against the Stamps to go. They could have kicked a short field goal for the last play of the game to extend that lead to four, but they chose to take a kneel down. I suppose that it didn't occur to Ken Miller.

Great game, and what an upset! Quinton Porter played again for the Ticats, and threw 5 TD passes. Prechae Rodriguez set the Ticats' team record with 13 receptions (including 3 TDs). (The previous record of 12 was set in 1976 by Jimmy Edwards.)

Ben Cahoon broke Ray Elgard's career record for most receptions by a Canadian. He now stands at #5 on the career list.

Winnipeg got off to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. Very early in the second quarter, the Eskimos scored a TD to make it 14-9 just as I was tuning in. Well, the Bombers didn't do much after that. Edmonton scored 4 TDs in the second quarter, and I turned it off at the half with the score 30-16. I turned it back on late in the third, but not much had happened. The Bombers started playing again in the fourth, but by then it was too late.

Mike Maurer has come out of retirement to help the Eskimos.

My favorite Maurer story is the one about the time he physically attacked a teammate on a bus ride when the guy, fresh from being cut by an NFL team, went on about how the NFL was better than the CFL!

Good game between two bad teams. See-saw battle with poor play until the Bombers got their act together in the last two minutes to put the game away.

The Bombers' magic number is now one.

Edmonton Eskimos 27....British Columbia Lions 20

This was an interesting game because the Lions had won five straight and were playing at home, yet the Eskimos dominated throughout. Edmonton had a big second quarter, and led handily after that.

With the score 27-10 fairly late in the game, BC scored ten points, the last three on a FG in the last minute to close the point differential in case a tie breaker is needed for the standings.

It took the Als a quarter to get it in gear, but after that it was no contest.

The loss mathematically eliminated the Ticats from the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

Good see-saw battle for three quarters. Then the Lions came on strong and put the game away in the fourth. But it wasn't over. The Lions needed to win this game by 13 to win the season series with the Eskimos (I'm referring to the points differential tie-breaker.). So on the last play of the game, the Eskimos attempted a field goal which would have cut the lead to 12 and given the series to Edmonton. But the kick was blocked!

With the loss, the Argos were eliminated from the playoffs. That means that the Als have clinched first in the East, and the Bombers have clinched second.

With the Argos' loss, the Bombers had nothing to play for. Kevin Glenn was pretty bad, and he was lifted at the half for Ryan Dinwiddie, who wasn't much better.

If the Stamps beat the Ticats next week, they will clinch first place in the West.

What a game! See-saw battle throughout. Luca Congi kicked a 36 yard FG with 47 seconds left to take the lead. On the last play of the game, Nick Setta attempted a 54 yard FG to win it, but it went wide, and was run out to avoid the single point.

For a team with the worst record in the league, the Ticats sure have played tough a lot of games this year.

Darian Durant started for the Riders, but had 3 interceptions in the first half. So he was pulled for Steven Jyles at halftime, and Jyles had a good game.

Durant played for UNC. In this morning's News & Observer, there was a nice article about him with a big photo of him in a Rider uniform, situated on page 2 of the Sports section next to the tv listings. Maybe that jinxed him!

The Stampeders never trailed, although it wasn't until early in the second quarter that they scored their first TD.

With the victory, the Stamps have clinched first place in the West.

Only two Stampeders have ever caught 100 passes in a season - Dave Sapunjis and Allen Pitts. Ken-Yon Rambo now has 97 with one game to go.

Ticat rookie QB Adam Tafralis came into the game at the end, his first CFL game, and led the team down the field for a TD.

This is the first season in Roughrider history that they have sold out every game. They almost didn't last week, but the walk-ups after the kickoff took care of it. I suppose that winning the Grey Cup last year had a lot to do with it.

The loss assures that Edmonton will finish last in the West for the third consecutive year. They will play Winnipeg in the Eastern Semi-Final. It is conceivable that this year's Grey Cup game will feature the West's first place team against the West's last place team.

Sask's defense scored the Riders' first two TDs, and kept the Eskimos out of the end zone.

Steven Jyles played the first half for the Riders, and Michael Bishop played the second half.

The Roughriders play the Argos next week. The Lions will play the Stampeders.

If the Riders win and the Lions lose, the Riders will clinch second place. Otherwise, the Lions will clinch second.

The Argos are out of the playoffs, and the Stampeders have clinched first place in the West. So naturally Sask and BC are hoping that their opponents don't show up to play, and that the other guys' do.

Entertaining game played for the purpose of meeting contractual obligations.

Jamel Richardson caught his 16th TD pass for the Als. That's a team record.

Kevin Glenn left the game in the second quarter with an injured left (non-throwing) hand. We learned last year when he broke his left arm that the Bombers need him badly. Maybe they'll give him the week off next week, to allow him to heal in time for the East Semi-Final.
