Edmonton 10....Ottawa 8

Ottawa blew it. Edmonton played a very poor game, but the Redblacks failed to capitalize on their chances.

Grant Shaw kicked a 27-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the game to give the Eskimos their first lead of the night and the victory.

PS - Good video.

The Stamps led the whole way, but the Ticats didn't quit and made a game of it. The Stamps scored a TD with 33 seconds left to seal the victory.

Both teams played poorly.

Tom Higgins may be losing control of the team. The Als scored a TD with 3:34 left to make the score 12-10. A two-point convert would have tied the score. Instead, Higgins chose to go for one point. A number of Als expressed their disagreement with the decision to him on the sideline.

Good video

The Argos came back from ten points down, but the Lions scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth. I think the Argos ran out of gas because they had played five days prior.

I remember when the Denver Gold of the USFL did this. As I recall, their ticket sales skyrocketed. I also remember that one year when the Ottawa Rough Riders were doing poorly, their opponent made the game Guaranteed Win Night. That upset the Rider coach Steve Goldman.

Bombers 24....Alouettes 16

http://cfl.ca/article/grigsbys-late-touchdown-powers-bombers-over-als

Pretty dull in the first half, but it got pretty interesting in the fourth quarter.

Here we are almost at the mid-point of the season, and there are a lot of offenses that seem inept. Are they, or are the defenses too good this year? And is the fact that this is an expansion year relevant to the problem?

You will recall that the NFL suspended Ricky Williams for the 2006 season for smoking marijuana. He signed with the Argos for the one year, but did little before breaking his arm, thus ending his season.

After the season, the league agreed not to sign players whom the NFL has suspended.

Now the NFL has suspended a Cleveland player named Josh Brown for smoking marijuana. The Stampeders promptly put him on their neg list.

I attended my first CFL game the first week of August, 1976. The Ticats hosted the Riders. I had a good seat close to the front, and I can still remember Pigskin Pete leading the Oskee Wee Wee cheer. I was saddened to learn that Pete passed away Sept. 10. I see now that he was officially Pigskin Pete III, and that he has been replaced by Pigskin Pete IV. RIP.

You will note that his CBC obituary says that he started in 1976, and worked through the 2006 season. My CFL encyclopedia says that I saw him in his second game! He certainly seemed to be experienced to me!
