Shortly after he was cut and retired, Troy Westwood wrote a column saying that Doug Berry did not have the respect of the players in the locker room.

Now today he has written a second column saying that Berry must go.

I don't recall a player in any sport going after a former coach like Westwood has done.

The Argos are considering playing their games at the stadium the Toronto MLS soccer team uses, and are conducting a survey of their season ticket holders to determine the fans' preferences.

I noticed the other day that suddenly everyone is spelling the first name of the Ticats QB Richie rather than Ritchie. He must have put out the word regarding how it should be spelled.

Here is a list of the Riders injuries:

The defending Grey Cup champions sit atop the West Division with a 6-1 mark, suffering their first loss of the season last week to Calgary 30-25. But the Riders lost two more players to injury in that game as offensive lineman Belton Johnson suffered a broken fibula (the fourth Saskatchewan player to sustain that injury this year) and cornerback Omarr Morgan also left the game with an unspecified injury and didn't return.

What's more amazing, though, is Saskatchewan being 6-1 despite a plethora of injuries. Included among the club's walking wounded are: receivers T.J. Acree (foot), Carl Berman (torn Achilles), Matt Dominguez (knee), Andy Fantuz (broken leg), D.J. Flick (broken leg), Chris Getzlaf (undisclosed) and David McKoy (knee), quarterbacks David Tate (shoulder) and Darian Durant (ribs), defensive end John Chick (knee), running back Neal Hughes (broken leg), defensive backs Leron Mitchell (broken leg), James Johnson (concussion) and Denatay Heard (knee), offensive linemen Glenn January (leg bruise), Jean Francois Morin-Roberge (undisclosed) and Marc Parenteau (knee) and linebacker Kevin Scott (undisclosed).

Apparently, Winnipeg signed Berry to a contract extension at the beginning of the season. It will be tough not to fire him if the Bombers bomb against Hamilton tomorrow.

Haven't been following the CFL as closely this year, but how is Casey Printers doing in Hamilton? I heard there may be a quarterback controversy in the making.

BClug, I believe that Printers has yet to throw a TD pass! Fortunately for him, much of the money of his three-year contract was paid up front.

The Bombers held a players-only meeting due to the ruckus caused by the Troy Westwood article mentioned above.

You will notice that the Als' Avon Cobourne is close to being on pace for 1000 yards for both receiving and rushing. No one has ever done that before.

I didn't know that Troy Westwood's column for the Winnipeg Sun is a weekly affair. After he wrote the column criticizing Coach Berry, the league withdrew his media credentials. The FRC (the beat writers' organization) has protested. It hasn't been resolved yet.

Edmonton Eskimos 27....Saskatchewan Roughriders 10

http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home

In the first quarter the Riders scored the game's first ten points. After that it was all Eskimos.

Marcus Crandell was back, and I think he went 7 for 24. I imagine the Sask fans can't wait for Darian Durant's ribs to heal.

Have you noticed how much the Eskimos have improved over the last month?

Good game. Calgary dominated, but BC kept it close, and tied it with seven minutes left in the game.

Jarious Jackson left the game in the third quarter with an injured middle finger in his throwing hand. It looked serious, maybe enough to keep him out of next week's game. Buck Pierce came in and looked pretty good.

This was Calgary's first win in Vancouver since 2002.

At 4-4, BC is now in last place.

Sandro DeAngelis was 5 for 5.

The Lions have a surfeit of running backs. Last year's league leading rusher Joe Smith has been a healthy scratch for the past two games. There has been much speculation in the press that the Lions will trade him.

The Security at BC Place used to wear orange. So many fans are now wearing Lions orange jersey and t-shirts that the Security had to change its outfits to yellow.

This just in. The Argos have traded Michael Bishop to the Riders for a conditional draft pick.

Bishop has been little used this year because the Argos acquired last year's Outstanding Player Kerry Joseph. Last year the Argos were 11-1 with Bishop as a starter.

The Riders have to feel that a rusty Bishop can't be any worse than Marcus Crandell's performance Thursday.

I don't know how many weeks will pass before Darian Durant comes back from his rib injury. After two straight losses, the Riders must have felt that they can't afford to wait any longer.

tsn.ca says:

Hamilton Ticats quarterback Casey Printers might not be starting against the Toronto Argonauts in their annual Labour Day clash after all.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Printers reported to practice after the bye week on Monday and still had issues with the thumb on his throwing hand.

Great game! It ended with the Lions on the Als' one yard line.

Buck Pierce played for the Lions instead of Jarious Jackson. Ben Cahoon caught a pass in his 100th consecutive game.

The Als offense struggled. The Lions are the only team which has been able to give Anthony Calvillo problems - they've done it twice this year.

edit for spelling

Herb Zurkowski is reporting that the Argos have approached Pinball Clemons to return as head coach if the Argos lose to the Ticats Monday. I didn't know that Pinball was the Argos' second winningest coach.

Here's a Sun report on the Argos rumor.

If there is any truth to the report, Argos GM Adam Rita wasn't admitting to it last night.

"Not that I know of, but sometimes the husband is the last to know," Rita told Sun Media's Terry Koshan.

Despite being with the team less than a week, Michael Bishop started for the Riders and led them to victory. I was unable to listen to the game, and have no idea how much of the playbook he could have learned in that time.

I am leaving on a business trip tomorrow, and expect to be gone about a week. If anyone would like to post the scores and article links, you are welcome to do so. If not, I will plan to catch up upon my return.

This will be the first Labor Day doubleheader I will miss in about twenty years. Before there was an internet to catch the games, I used to spend the day at a sports bar watching the CBC feed off the satellite. Those were good times!

I wonder if Sarah Palin has ever caught the Canadian league games on TV up in Alaska!

Ricky Ray threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Fred Stamps, to lead the Edmonton Eskimos to a 37-16 win over the Calgary Stampeders in Monday's annual Labour Day Classic game. A.J. Harris had a rushing touchdown for the Eskimos, who improved to 6-3 and second place in the West Division.
