The Canadian equivalent of ESPN is called TSN...

What about Réseau des sports (RDS) in Québec? I watched that network quite a bit during my visits to Montréal. Their site has decent-looking Francophone Grey Cup coverage.

TD, RDS and TSN are owned by the same company. RDS is considered the French-language TSN.

I'm not sure if it is carried outside of Quebec. There are francophones in Manitoba. Perhaps it is carried there. Do any of you Canucks know?

Controversy! Two Als, Matthieu Proulx and Etienne Boulay, accused the league of favoring the Riders on a French-language Quebec radio station today. This has political implications.

The finalists for the CFL Awards have been announced.

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=340723

My picks are:

Calvillo

Fantuz

Owens

Knowlton

Elimimian

Archibald

A couple could go either way!

The CFL Awards were announced tonight. And the winners are...

Burris

Fantuz

Owens

Knowlton

Elimimian

Archibald

I suspected that the writers would name Burris as the league's Outstanding Player when they named him ahead of Calvillo when picking the All-Star team.

All six were first time winners. Owens was a unanimous selection.

Thanks, GA. I never suspected that TSN and RDS have the same corporate parent.

Dan Ralph on the Commissioner's address this morning. (I liked the stats that half of the CFL games were decided by seven points or less, and that the outcome in almost half came down to the final three minutes.)

I have changed the thread title, as the off-season has now begun!

This thread is now three years old, with 25,687 views. That's 8,562 views per year, which is pretty amazing!

Ken Miller is stepping down as head coach of the Riders. He will remain as VP of football operations.

Gene Makowski is entering politics. He will plan to continue playing, but he has already played 16 years, so his career is almost at an end anyway.

Here is a list of the players in the league who will become free agents Feb. 16.

I'm amazed that BC has only two.

I can see Jarious Jackson and Ron Flemons moving.

Edmonton continues to announce more changes. They have released Jason Goss, Derick Armstrong and Kerry Joseph among others. And they have hired Marcus Crandell as their new offensive coordinator.

In his press conference immeidately after the Grey Cup game, Anthony Calvillo announced that he had a thyroid problem and would go under the knife soon. A lesion on the thyroid was removed, and it was determined to be cancerous. So today his thyroid gland was removed. The report is that the doctor is satisfied. But at 38 years of age, you have to wonder if this will be relevant to Calvillo's playing future.

It now looks like there is a real possibility that the Ticats will relocate. The Hamilton City Council today voted down the proposed location of a new stadium, and Ivor Wynne (which was built around 1930) can't go much further without a very expensive rehab for which there is no money.

Tony Proudfoot has passed away from ALS.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of the Grey Cups - I think '96, but maybe '85. He was a very nice guy with a lot of class.

RIP

As I think we have mentioned before, the number of CFL alums with ALS is way out of proportion to the general population.
