See-saw battle for the first half. The Als were the better team, but the Riders played tough.

I learned tonight that the Als sell Jack Daniels shots in the stands!

The Lions couldn't stop Fred Reid. He ran for 260 yards, third best in league history.

The Bombers o-line completely dominated. Everyone expected the Lions to miss Cam Ward, but apparently they miss him even more than they thought they would. The Bombers' second back Yvenson Bernard ran for 112 yards.

Jarious Jackson apparently suffered a concussion in the second half, banging his head on the turf. You will recall that that happened last week to Buck Pierce, so the Lions are down to their third string, and play the Als their next two games.

If the Lions had won tonight, Wally Buono would have tied Don Matthews for most coaching victories.

Boring defensive struggle in the first half, with the halftime score tied at three. The game became very interesting in the second half with exchanges of FGs and TDs. The Argos had a chance to tie it on the last play of the game with a long FG attempt, but they instead opted to go for a Hail Mary which failed.

Henry Burris passed Doug Flutie's Calgary team record for completed passes.

I forgot to mention last night that Byron Parker and PK Sams have returned to the Argos from the NFL camps. Sams scored two TDs. Parker was the guy cut by the Eagles to make room for Michael Vick.

Sam Etcheverry has died. His league passing records lasted for years even though they didn't start keeping track of stats until after he had played a couple of years.

What a game! The Ticats led for the first 59 minutes!

Quinton Porter bruised his knee the last game, so Kevin Glenn got his first start of the season. He was good. He hooked up with Arland Bruce for a couple of TDs.

The Eskimos got the first INT of the year!

It looks like the Bombers will sign Adam (Pacman) Jones. He's going to go stir-crazy in Winnipeg! I'm surprised that he is only 25 years old.

The crime rate will rise in Canada with Adam up there!!

Looking like you're not going to make the playoffs can make you desperate. Now the Bombers are planning to sign Charles Roberts too.

Here's an article about Pacman and Roberts. It mentions that Roberts, only 25, is the father of seven children! How did he find the time to get into trouble?

Pretty much a defensive battle, although Martell Mallett rushed for a Lions team record 213 yards. Considering how awful the Lions D was last game against the Bombers' rushing, it's amazing that they were able to stop the Als.

Wally Buono grew up in Montreal and played for the Als. Last night he tied Don Matthews for most regular season (231) and total (including post-season) (250) coaching victories, and he has the chance to set the new record next week against his old team in the rematch in Montreal.

edit: I forgot to mention that the game ended under very questionable circumstances. Montreal had the ball near the goal line, third down and a yard. They make it but Wally had called a time out. So they do it again, and this time they score the touchdown. But the ref disallows the play and says that the scoreboard clock needed to be reset. So they do it a third time. The ref spots the ball two inches short of a first down.

Dave Naylor misstates the score. The Lions did not score the winning TD after the incident. They were already leading with what turned out to be the final score.

The Ticats dominated throughout, but shot themselves in the foot near the endzone so often that the Argos were at least in theory still in the game till the end of the third quarter.

Kevin Glenn started again for the Ticats, and had another good game.

Henry Burris set the Stamps' team record for passes thrown (career), and passed Tom Burgess for 11th place on the league's career passing yardage list.

That was a bizarre finish. Where does the CFL get its officials? The WWE?

It looks like Barrin Simpson is through with the Bombers. He has had enough of Mike Kelly and his staff. They have given him permission to shop himself around, and he won't be on the roster this week.

The league has admitted that the call that took away the Als' TD against the Lions was a bad call, and it has proposed three rule changes for the refs to ensure that it won't happen again.

Defensive struggle that went into overtime. The score was tied at 19 at the end of regulation.

This was the Argos' first win at home since August 1 of last year - 405 days!

Quinton Porter went in and out a few times, but Kevin Glenn played most of the game.

Arland Bruce scored a TD. Everybody was wondering what he would do for a TD celebration, but he didn't do anything.

It was Cody Pickett's first win as a starter in the CFL or NFL.

Nick Setta had a convert blocked. How often does that happen?

Terrific game! The Eskimos were slightly better all game long, but Jermaine Copeland caught the winning TD with 22 seconds left.

PS - Copeland is a winner. He won the national championship with Tennessee. He won the XFL championship with Los Angeles. And he has won the Grey Cup with both Montreal and Calgary.

I think I heard the announcer say that the Rider record for points scored is 58.

The Bombers were unable to find any takers for Barrin Simpson, so they have put him on the 9 game injured list, which puts him out of action through the end of the regular season. They were obligated to pay his salary anyway, even if they released him. This allows them to retain his rights. And since he is on the injured list, his salary will not count against the cap.

Makes you wonder how injured he is, doesn't it?

Strange game, but good. The Argos O showed absolutely nothing. The Lions took a 14-0 lead when it should have been more like double that.

The Argos then scored 17 straight to take the lead, but the Lions came back, dominating the entire game although trailing for a while in the third.

Wally set the record for coaching wins.

Great game! The Eskimos slowly scored a TD on all three of their first half possessions, but the Riders fought back to take the lead.

History was made when Omarr Morgan set a league record for a fumble return to score a TD. At the time, the announcers said it was 106 yards, but later they said 105. I see that the above link lists it as 108.

The Eskimos scored the winning TD with 1:09 left to go in the game on a 68 yard pass from Ray to Maurice Mann. The Riders moved all the way down the field in the final minute. On the last play of the game from the 17, the pass fell incomplete in the end zone.
