Toronto Argonauts 19.....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 5

The teams in the league have become more cohesive over the course of the first four weeks of the season, but Stefan LeFors's performance has not progressed. After three quarters, the Bombers had 2 first downs.

Richie Williams came in to play in the fourth quarter. At this rate, it wouldn't surprise me if they let him start in the near future, even though LeFors is a favorite of Mike Kelly.

The Stampeders started flat, but then scored 17 in the second quarter and never looked back. Jarious Jackson again came off the bench for the Lions, but he couldn't do anything this week.

The best game of the week. See-saw battle. Sask scored the first 22 points.

Kitwana Jones chased down and held a purse snatcher in Edmonton the other day. He played his college ball at UNC, so The News & Observer printed the Globe & Mail account of the story!

Surprise! The Als got it together in the fourth quarter and closed to within seven, but the Esks scored a TD to ice the game. Edmonton has been strong the past two weeks.

I remain hopeful that the Lions will get it together over the course of the season. But after five games, I think it is fair to begin to think that this is the worst team Wally Buono has ever coached.

Here's an oddity: There were no punts in the third quarter.

This is the first time the Ticats have swept the Lions since 1992.

With 3 wins, the Ticats have now matched their win totals for both last year and the year before.

Great game between two bad teams. Considering that he had been with the team less than a week, Michael Bishop looked pretty good. The Argos turned the ball over seven times!

But they almost won anyway. With 19 seconds to go, they kicked a 47 yard FG to give them the lead. But they had a time count violation, so that moved the ball back 10. The 57 yard attempt hit the upright!

Good game. See saw battle, won with a bomb that beat a safety blitz with about 1:20 to go.

More Saskatchewanians live in Calgary than in any Saskatchewan city, and as usual the sold out crowd had a lot of green in it. So there was plenty of loud cheering when either team scored.

Scott Schultz is going to retire. No word yet on why. He has spent his entire career with the Riders, and I suspect that they gave him the option of retiring or being released, and he decided to retire. But that's just my guess.

Montreal Alouettes 25....Toronto Argonauts 0

The Toronto defense did its best to keep the team in the game, but the Argos offense stunk for the second straight week. Kerry Joseph was lifted after three in favor of Cody Pickett.

This was the first time the Als have shut somebody out since 1976 when Marv Levy was the coach. This was the first time the Argos were shut out since 1992, when Doug Flutie and the Stamps did the deed.

The Riders led throughout the first half, until late in the second quarter when BC took the lead for good with a TD scored on a dribble!

Calgary Stampeders 31....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1246095/

The Bombers offense was worthless in the first half. At the half the score was 23-3, and the Bombers got their FG before they got a first down.

But it was a different game in the second half. The Bombers had the ball in the last minute, hoping to get a TD and a 2-point convert, but Michael Bishop threw an interception.

What a game! Both teams scored a TD in the final minute! Both offenses moved the ball well throughout the game. It seemed like the game was even more high scoring than it was.

Henry Burris set the Stampeders team record for career yardage thrown, passing Doug Flutie.

Great game between two bad teams. The Argos had a 22-7 third quarter lead and let the game slip away at the very end.

Justin Medlock tied the Argos team record with 7 FGs. The league record is 8.

Cody Pickett performed much better than I expected. His 0-line gave him time, which may say something about the Lions' defense.

Buck Pierce left the game early after banging his head on the turf. Shades of Dave Dickinson.

The Als were a little slow getting out of the gate, but once they got started they had no problem.

Calvillo threw three consecutive passes for TDs in the first half. That has to be some kind of a record.

Alexis Serna has turned his career around. He stunk for most of last year, but (I was surprised to learn tonight) hit 10 of his last 11 FG attempts. This year he is (I think) 14 of 17, including 4 of 5 tonight.

I didn't bother listening to the second half.

What started out as a terrible game finished with an exciting fourth quarter. The Ticats were pathetic in the first quarter - one yard total offense and no first downs. To start the second, Glenn replaced Porter but didn't do much. At the half, Sask led 23-0.

But as they say, the Ticats must have made adjustments at halftime. They scored the first 23 points of the second half to tie the game in the fourth. But the Riders regrouped with ten minutes to go and scored the last ten points of the game.
