He was Philadelphia's 2nd round draft pick in 1972. They offered him $18,000, and wouldn't budge. So he sat out the year. The following year, he approached Philadelphia, and asked what their offer was. They said, "The same. $18,000. Take it or leave it." So Yochum then contacted Montreal, and said, "What will you pay me?" They said, $32,000." And at that time, the Canadian dollar was more valuable than the US dollar, worth $1.05. I won't go back through the season to do research, but my hunch is that the Alouettes have been the only team to routinely shut down their opponents. A favorite of mine, Jaelon Acklin, was taken away in an ambulance. He jumped up to catch a touchdown pass, was tackled in the air, and landed on the back of his head. He could move his extremities, but it was scary nevertheless. Ottawa is undefeated at home, 5-0-1. BC has lost five straight. Rourke looked better this week, but the BC o-line didn't look strong. But they have lost their last five games, so I'll continue to pick them to lose until they break the streak. The Redblacks look unimpressive, but somehow have the second-best record in the league.) Winnipeg over Sask (The Bombers are getting better while the Riders are getting worse. The Riders are 1-5-1 in their past six games.) Toronto over Hamilton (The Argos have been unable to appear impressive over a period of time, but the Ticats currently have the punching power of the Lions and the Riders.) Edmonton over Calgary (One of Chris Jones' last acts with the Elks was to shore up their defense by signing Oakman and Moncrief. The offense was never the problem, so I rate the Elks highly.
