jazzhound Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) is this on vinyl? I rue the day John McLaughlin leaves this planet. There will be black hole in the music world. Edited January 6, 2005 by jazzhound Quote
cho Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 One of my major purchase in 2004 in John Mclaughlin Live in Contreaux Box (18 CDs from 70s to the end of the 20th Century). The JJ Box materials shows his artistic matury even at the beginning of his career. Both Boxes are fantastic. John is my top living guitarist and ranks equallly with Charlie and Wes. Quote
dave9199 Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 One of my favorite Miles songs is Willie Nelson. I can listen to all 6 versions on the JJ box back to back & not get sick of it. Quote
Eric Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 I keep coming back to this box, more so than any in recent memory. Miles and McLaughlin are in such great form throughout (plus this significantly expands the amount of McLaughlin available from this era). Sure, it is a bit tedious to listen to straight through. I loaded the whole thing on itunes and created a few of my own playlists. For example: Willie Nelson [Take 3] Johnny Bratton [Take 4] Archie Moore Go Ahead John [Part Two B] Duran [Take 6] Honky Tonk (Take 2) Little High People [Take 8] The Mask (Part One) Ali [Take 3] This makes it a little more digestable ... Rooster_Ties Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 I think this is one of the strongest of the Miles box sets, certainly on par with the best of the bunch. The only tunes I find lacking are the slow tunes with/by Hermeto Pascoal on disc #4. "Willie Nelson" works quite well for me too - and I've also listened to all six takes, back to back, on a number of occasions. Good music to have on when making dinner, or folding laundry. Quote
WD45 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 I just gotta say that I am listening to Go Ahead John and I have determined that DeJohnette's drumming is highly illegal. DAMN! Quote
jazzbo Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 (edited) Yeah, just illegal when run through the Macero "doubler" device!" DAMN! Edited May 24, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
Aggie87 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 The longbox version of this appears to be coming out on August 23rd. So anybody who's interested in the metal spine box may want to consider picking this up fairly soon, as I'm guessing those will start to dry up quickly... Quote
Eric Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 This has got to be one of my favorite box sets. I have created a couple of playlists that cherry-pick various takes. Just smokin' ... Quote
sal Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I agree. I got it just about a month or so ago, and I am absolutely loving this set. Quote

crisp Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 If anybody is still really interested, this is just £17.99 (£53 off) at hmv.com. Quote
colinmce Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 If anybody is still really interested, this is just £17.99 (£53 off) at hmv.com. All Columbia jazz titles are massively reduced on Amazon, with (mostly non-Miles) single discs going for 6.99, and box sets marked down, too. Quote
