Peter Friedman Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Just listened to another lovely version of WHAT'S NEW. This one by" Ruby Braff and His New England Song Hounds. Vol.2" on Concord Jazz. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 My favourite is Kay Penton's - with Tadd Dameron, IIRC. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Cecil Taylor - Sunny Murray - Jimmy Lyons - Nefertiti, The Beautiful One... - killing version. I was gonna say that too! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 The two that spring to mind for me (or three now) are Konitz's version with Mehldau and Haden on Blue Note; cant't remember which disc it's on -- the first with the V shaped stripes on the cover I think. no, i'm talking b*llocks it's this one Both are from paintings by Kenneth Noland, so you can't be faulted too hard. Bit 'off topic' Clifford but is this the only time Blue Note has used works of art other than it's own in house design team? Interesting to know; particularly as these are such visually striking pieces. Quote
couw Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 the version on Gil Cuppini's album is marvellous with a beautiful contribution by Barney Wilen. Quote
