king ubu
The Louis Smith album would be great to have, one of the very few ones that come to mind. The missing parts of the Hall/Johnson/Dickenson Mosaic would also be great to have on individual CDs, and all of those great Art Hodes sessions, too! Any or all, that is! And I'm sure there are some other things that have never been out or OOP for a long time, the only one that comes to mind and that I would indeed buy is Stanley Turrentine's "Look Out", but I haven't checked how hard it is to find that one... Other than that I have the feeling that most of the stuff has been out by now and is in no real need of yet another reissue... there was a point where the RVGs indeed started getting a bit absurd, for instance when that Lee Morgan album came out again while the "old" version of it was just 2 or 3 years old... The Smith is one of the very few from the well-known/loved/hyped years of BN (1955-1965 roughly?) that has not been readily available, Dizzy Reece's "Soundin' Off" is another one, but I'll eventually get the Mosaic Select even though I have everything else that's on it, except for that one album. The "Tenor Man" album would be interesting though, and some more Pacific items in general. The album Groove Holmes did with Ben Webster is one that has been out but impossible to find for me so far, so there'd be another one to reissue that has already been on CD... but while there was the rather absurd Chet Baker series (almost everything was still available, grouped a bit more reasonably, too - and all of these go OOP now before EMI yurp would put out non-cc versions, too - sucks!) of reissues being reissued, I guess all the other things just wouldn't sell, or at least that's how the execs look at it (who owns BN anyway by now? Did them private equiteers already start taking things apart?)
The Magnificent Goldberg
May I suggest a Rare Groove batch too? If not, I’ll take these from Water or some other label! Lou Donaldson - Cosmos Reuben Wilson - On Broadway Jack McDuff - To Seek A New Home Jimmy McGriff - Something To Listen To Gene Harris And The Three Sounds Are the tapes missing to Grant Green’s 'Green Acid'? Otherwise I’d add that one too. Good list, though "Cosmos" isn't that good. Perhaps a reissue could wipe out the backing vocalists, though Ronnie Foster, too. And McGriff's "Black pearl" - which could be made into a twofer with the McGriff/Jr Parker "Chicken fried soul" which I think was recorded at the same gig and issued on UA. I've done a twofer of it for myself and it feels great. MG
The Magnificent Goldberg
complete Blue John sessions complete Lou Donaldson "The Scorpion" live recording the Harold Vick songs w/Patton that never came out. Get back Rare Grooves...dug all the sessions previously mentioned for that...maybe add some Ronnie Foster to the list. More organ stuff that's not Jimmy Smith... Hi SS, where yer bin? And some Freddie Roach - though the only one I haven't got on CD is "Mo greens pliz" and I mean to get a TOCJ soonish. MG
paul secor
In a perfect (or even less imperfect) world, BN would make their entire catalogue available - RVG'd, Addey'd, whatever -make all the reissue fans happy, and get down to the business of recording good new jazz. The bad news is that this world is far from perfect, and far from less imperfect, so neither will happen. The good news is that there's a lot more to the jazz world and the music world than Blue Note.
mgraham333
Looks like digital releases might be part of the plan for the future. Welcome to the new Blue Note Records web site. Over the past several months we have been working on this new site and will continue to do so over the coming months and years. Like Jazz, the Blue Note site will be ever growing and ever expanding. That growth and expansion will include offering high quality DRM-free MP3 downloads of our full catalog of tracks, albums, out of print titles and unique releases exclusive to the Blue Note store. From the recently remodeled Blue Note website
DMP
Maybe we'll see an RVG of "Come Away With Me."

J Larsen
The Louis Smith is waaayyy at the top of my list. Every other BN that I really, really felt like I had to have has been made available in one way or another in the last few years.
The Magnificent Goldberg
From the recently remodeled Blue Note website What a disappointment! I hit the link, got the home page, hit artists, hit A and saw, not without a certain amazement, the name Alpha Blondy, one of my favourite Reggae singers. So I hit the link, to be told that there are no releases by Alpha Blondy (on Blue Note). Er... did Alpha Blondy ever have a release on Blue Note? His recordings are licensed from his own company by EMI France... MG
Bol
The missing parts of the Hall/Johnson/Dickenson Mosaic would also be great to have on individual CDs, and all of those great Art Hodes sessions, too! Any or all, that is! Yes, I'd like such a CD issue too. I believe that these are Vic Dickenson-led sessions. The other issue I'd like very much would be the complete Circle recordings by Corea and the company.

clifford_thornton
Well, at least the BN Circle material would be do-able. The rest is on CBS Sony Japan and ECM. Wahoo was on CD in Japan recently, and I don't think it was all that pricey.
AndrewHill
Besides "Early Circle" which is under Corea's name, what else does BN have from Cirlce?
clifford_thornton
There were two DLP sets under the name Circulus and Circling In, both of which feature either the complete band or aggregations of Corea with Braxton, Holland and/or Altschul. There's also a Corea/Holland/Altschul trio LP on BN from the early 1970s.
AndrewHill
Well then, I second that Mosaic Circle set. All I have is Early Circle, which is a terrific set; would love to hear more!
clifford_thornton
I should say that Circling In has some tracks with Vitous and Haynes, so it's not entirely Circle material. Still, a little of this and a little of that could make a nice two or three CD set.
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
blue note will never reissue the session material we all want to hear. think how many alternate takes there are on those tapes of our favorite blue note pieces. someday, someone will copy them all just like they did in the 80s with the beach boys capitol session tapes, and in the uk in 1982or3 at abbey road with the beatles tapes. in fact i think this already has happneed to a smaller extent. am i wrong in thinking the session tapes contain all the alternate takes? king ubu
I should say that Circling In has some tracks with Vitous and Haynes, so it's not entirely Circle material. Still, a little of this and a little of that could make a nice two or three CD set. I think those Vitous/Haynes tracks were on the expanded CD editions of "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", no? So it would be "Early Circle", parts of "Circling In", plus possibly "Song of Singing"... I don't have the playing times of the music, but I guess the Circle material would fit onto two CDs, and with "Song of Singing" it might end up being three? Anyway, I did write them a mail suggesting this yesterday, will report if I get an answer!

Kevin Bresnahan
I'm going to add this info here... unless everyone thinks this deserves its own thread? Anyway, I heard back from Michael Cuscuna about the upcoming Horace Silver date and I asked him what was in store for Blue Note in 2008. He replied back with quite a few titles, with both RVG and Connoisseur CDs listed! Blue Note's reissues are not dead (yet). As always, these are the preliminary titles. Unless Michael includes UPC numbers, they aren't ready to go out the door. But I would think these are pretty firm. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> from Michael >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> March 11 RVGs Jimmy Smith – Live At The Baby Grand V. 1 Jimmy Smith – Live At The Baby Grand V. 2 Ike Quebec – Blue And Sentimental Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims Here Comes Louis Smith Stanley Turrentine – Look Out! The Magnificent Goldberg
Baby Grand!!! Baby Grand!!! Baby Grand!!! I wonder if there'll be bonus tracks? There are lots of unissued tracks listed as rejected in the discography, including 3 untitled blues (surely ONE of them must be a blinder?) and "Tunisia", "Joy spring" (now that would be an interesting one) and "Red sails in the sunset" (would love to hear how he did that one).
