"Man she's got chops like Tatum, but no taste. Weird broad..." The several times I heard her in clubs, that was my impression. Gave me a headache. Quote

Guest Bill Barton Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) anybody heard her chiaroscuro recordings? Way, way back... We had them at one radio station or another (can't recall which one). I don't have any in my own collection. They're - how shall I say? - typically Donegan. If Mal Waldron was Hemingway then she was Jackie Susann. I heard her in performance in NYC circa 1981 and pretty much agree with Larry Kart. I recall attending a rehearsal for the Women in Jazz show that Rosetta Reitz organized. I pity the poor drummers and bassists she worked with, that's for sure. I hope that they were paid well. Speaking of pay, that was the main thrust of her conversation at that rehearsal, finding out when George Wein was going to pay her. Edited November 14, 2007 by Bill Barton Quote
