sidewinder Posted October 28, 2021 Report Posted October 28, 2021 If I can find it, I’ll give ‘Haunted Ballroom’ from this one a spin. Featuring spooky WW2 drum solo by prodigy wonder-kind Victor F. with Glenn Miller’s AAFB. Quote

Thank you for your interest. Dr. Duckworth, I listened to your show today. Thank you, it was great! Setting aside the Halloween content - which was perfect - I honestly don't listen to much jazz from this era, so it was a refreshing change. I loved the Ellington, Nat Cole, Emmett Miller, and Billie Holiday. The audio on some of those tunes was much better than I would have expected, and I was listening only on computer speakers. Whenever I hear younger Louis Armstrong sing, I am always amazed at how much he sounds like Louis Prima, or vice-versa, really. And I'm jealous that you are in Memphis. I am overdue for a visit! Teasing the Korean Posted October 29, 2021 Author Report Posted October 29, 2021 Bernard Herrmann - Sisters It is amazing that so late in his career, Herrmann did such great and varied scores as Sisters, Obsession, It's Alive and Taxi Driver. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted October 30, 2021 Author Report Posted October 30, 2021 I recently learned that most of the circulating versions of "Riddle of the Papawhos" by Danny Staton were transferred at the wrong speed. Here it is at the correct speed. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted October 31, 2021 Author Report Posted October 31, 2021 Ennio Morricone - Exorcist II: The Heretic. This would be a very easy Halloween costume. All you need it is a black belt, two red push pins, and two white cell phone charging cords. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 31, 2021 Author Report Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) Ennio Morricone - The Thing This album includes Morricone's score, but not John Carpenter's synth music. I wonder how the two would sound integrated into the same program. Edited October 31, 2021 by Teasing the Korean Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted November 1, 2021 Author Report Posted November 1, 2021 Well, another Halloween has come and gone, so we will be putting this thread away until next October. In the meantime, please remember, as Johnny Mathis told us, that the secret of Halloween is not the things you do at Halloween time, but the Halloween things you do the whole year through. Quote
