Chalupa Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I bought Noah Howard's, "Black Ark" last January for $80 on Ebay. I found out a week later that it was being re-issued so I flipped it w/ a "buy it now" of $125. That was a nice little profit. I just checked my email and i had the amounts wrong. I actually did better - bought it for $105 and sold it for $225. Ka-ching. :rsmile: Quote
AndrewHill Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Doesn't anyone consider the difference between Blue Note, Sony, etc and the guys like Ermite, Okka and the rest? Your money might make a difference. Someone unloaded 5 Erimite titles at a local Half Price books once. I bought them all for $6 bucks a pop, along with snagging a William Parker Erimite in the $1 bin. Not to mention that there was also Brotzmann Okka (Stonewater) there later on for $6 sealed. Of course, I bought that one too. When I compare those prices at Half Price to the BN's and Columbia's they carry, it turns out that used copies of those are also about $6. Quote

Your money might make a difference. Still, single Okka and Eremite discs are around $20 - not expensive at all! Where the heck are you buying 'em? Or are you getting them for free? Okka and I sell their discs for $13 and a check of the Eremite site seems they are well below $20. Some for free, some bought, so you are right, my law of averages is kinda skewed! Quote
jlhoots Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 If there's a Venus CD I want, I'll buy it from Hiroshi for approx. $25 US. Quote

I have no problem buying used CDs if they are out of print or otherwise horribly hard-to-obtain. That said, in the age of the internet and small labels that could use a dime, Chuck's point should be taken. Doesn't take long to figure why Eremite may not have put out a new release in some time: $$$ ... Quote
EKE BBB Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I paid about $35.00 plus shipping for a Japanese CD edition of a Tete Montoliu disc (no domestic edition at that time)... to discover that it was reissued a few months later, and that I would have been able to get it for $14.00. Quote
Tom Storer Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I don't have a price limit. It all depends on how much I want the record. I think I've gone as high as $40. Here in France, if I had a $20 limit I'd be unable to buy anything except second-hand or special promotions. Quote
LAL Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 $25 - $30 for an OOP item by a small and/or defunct label. $18 for a new disc, maybe a couple more $ if the disc is a 2-for-1. Quote
Brownian Motion Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I spent 60.00 for Larry Coryell's Le Sacre du Printemps but that was after a year's search for a less expensive copy--in fact 60.00 was the "less expensive" copy. I've sold a few dozen CDs for 30 to 50 bucks a pop, mostly early titles on the Classics label. Quote
