A click on "View New Posts" brings up a list of the following threads:

Dumbledore is gay

The Baseball Thread 2007

CD-Rs sold as CDs

question for our multilinguist friends:

Playlist, WBLV / WBLU FM, 10-18-07, 10p.m.-3a.m.

Porter Wagoner in serious condition

Lake Lanier has 3 months of water storage left-Main water supply

What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Mosaic sale, ending October 14

Name Three People...

Keith Jarrett on a Rant

Happy Birthday, Chris A!!

What music did you buy today?

Only two jazz-related threads (one if you don't count the Playlist thread, zero if you think that another Jarrett rant has nothing to do with jazz). Bear in mind, I've locked myself out of the Politics zone, so this list doesn't even include those threads; who knows how many of those are active right now?

So, what's happening? Did we finally run out of things to talk about? I'm not too worried.. we haven't turned into Jazz Corner or AAJ yet.

Maybe I need to start another "jazz album I hate" thread. ;)

Dumbledore is gay!!!! :o

Say it ain't so.

Actually had it not been for that thread, I would have gone the rest of my life not knowing who Dumbledore was.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. :w

this might be time to mention that many of us who have really loved jazz and music for a lifetime now have so many enjoyable entertaining distractions that the fine art of listening seriously to music is declining.

how is this music going to retain attention(and can it survive) and listeners in an ever noisier world?

Gonna contribute by putting on top a thread that does not talk about jazz but talks about the fact that we're not talking about jazz.

You might want to go to the Stupid Questions thread and ask whether that's a good idea or not first.

Last week I tried to spark what I thought would be a long-running, really interesting discussion about the music HERE but it didn't go very far.

I do have an idea for a poll but it probably won't spark much discussion, its more informational than anything else. No, its not about the World Series, its a musical question.

I don't think there's a problem. We're all at different stages in our listening - sometimes we talk about music, and sometimes we talk about other things.

The only thing I don't really get is people who only post in the politics forum on a jazz bulletin board, and essentially/effectively nowhere else.

As someone who has been part of many boards over the years. It's a thing that actually occurs often where a certain number of people would be on a board related about a specific subject but would mostly post in the miscellaneous sections.

I guess they prefer the idea of talking about different subjects with people that they share a common passion than talk about the subject that unites them.

Maybe we should do a thread about that ?

Yeah, i know, should belong the stupid question thread.

Whatever happened to the idea of talking about discussing the possibility of thinking about meeting to explore the idea of talking about considering the concept of starting a band?

Right now it's only a notion, but I think we can get money to make it into a concept ... and later turn it into an idea.

how is this music going to retain attention(and can it survive) and listeners in an ever noisier world?

You already have your answer !

I'm a little disheartened by some of the vitriol (that's charm school for bullshit) in some recent threads (Gram Parsons, Howard Mandel, Keith Jarrett).

Civility & collegiality do have a place.

Disagreement is fine, but some of what I've been reading is just preening & posturing.

I think our host is remarkably tolerant. We're very fortunate to be able to say pretty much anything we want here, but I think it's also important to remember that we are guests. I sometimes wonder why Jim hasn't gotten fed up with some of this BS and pulled the plug, but I'm glad he hasn't because the good stuff is pretty darn good. I've enjoyed this place for several years now, I look forward to signing on each day and reading many interesting posts- there is quite an impressive cast of characters here. It's really been a great part of my life, and I would sure miss it if it went away. :)

We could talk about Norah Jones?

She purdy.

ok then, let's talk about purdiness... like, Mr. Bernard Purdie, for instance!

And who the eff is dumbledumb? And why is he happy or not? And who cares? And why do such threads get started if thread-starters would prefer to talk about jazz?
