David Ayers
... can it? £10.49 at time of writing for this 15 CD set. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Riverside...4434&sr=8-
Daniel A
"Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 weeks", which means they don't really have it in stock. But it's cheap anyway...
Matthew
What the heck... I just ordered it.
Aggie87
That's a great deal, if they come through! Good luck, Matthew! That reminds me of the good ol' Zweitausendeins box set sale days. P.S. - If anyone ever sees a Wes Montgomery Riverside box for this kind of price, lemme know!!!
Matthew
PS: I forget, thanks for the tip David.
Claude
If it's the regular box set (LP-sized with full booklet), that's an incredible bargain. The reduced box set sold by Zweitausendeins was never availalable through other channels AFAIK, so chances are high that the Amazon offering is the regular box set. brownie
That Monk box seems available at Amazon.UK only. at that price! Amazon.com has it for $270, Amazon.fr has it for €409, Amazon.de has it for €449,
Aggie87
Too good to pass up. I have the small box, and will sell that if this one actually comes through. The label listed is Concord - could this be boxes they are simply trying to unload, if Amazon UK actually comes through on this?
Tom Storer
Thanks, David! I ordered it, but it seems too good to be true. I won't be holding my breath. (Well, actually, I will, but I want to seem cool and blasé.)
J.A.W.
If Amazon U.K. can actually come through on this, delivery might be delayed due to the postal strike in the U.K.
Tom Storer
Yeah, they mention that when you order. They told me "delivery estimate 17-26 October" and said that's taking the postal strike into account.
sidewinder
I needed to order an I-Trip anyway, which gave me free shipping so if it comes through I get the Monk set for about £6.50. Bargain of the century (up there with the zweitausendeins bonanza) if this one happens.. Edited October 5, 2007 by sidewinder
sidewinder
Now if they could only come up with a Bill Evans 'Last Waltz' and 'The Secret sessions' for me at this price. In my dreams, I guess.. Edited October 5, 2007 by sidewinder
porcy62
First: if I would have known at times that someone in this forum hadn't the Monk, I'd never subscribe. Second: I'd buy another copy only for the price. Edited October 5, 2007 by porcy62
David Ayers
This set has suddenly gone from #800,000 best seller to #467...
deadcoldfish
This set has suddenly gone from #800,000 best seller to #467... Ordered one, but I'm afraid I know what the outcome will be, as email from Amazon UK will arrive soon, stating "we're sorry but, ..." Oh well, I also ordered the Life on Mars Season 2 set, so all won't be lost.
trane_fanatic
My order came out to be £8.93 (even cheaper) + £3.08 shipping = £12.01 total from the UK to San Francisco for the Monk box. This is weird. Almost a "too good to be true but possible" scenario like the Sly box set / Best Buy fiasco except this is even loonier. clifford_thornton
Yeah, I ordered one too - figured that, even as I have some of these on LP, it'd be idiotic not to buy this set for this price!
mikelz777
I'm one of those "weirdos" who doesn't even own a single Monk CD. I guess I never really "got" him so I never pursued any of his recordings. At about $24.00 USD delivered, this is a deal too good to pass up. If it pans out, I'll have ample opportunity to explore a lot of Monk to see what all the fuss is about. Let's keep our fingers crossed! (Amazon.UK got me the Count Basie Clef/Verve Mosaic for less than half price so I'm hopeful!) What are your thoughts on the content for a Monk neophyte? Thanks for the tip Mr. Ayers! andybleaden
Its a nice set if only to see him working on a piece take by take especially for the price and more so if it is the LP size box Good luck!
porcy62
Its a nice set if only to see him working on a piece take by take especially for the price and more so if it is the LP size box Good luck! The rehearsal take of "Round Midnight" is the best introduction to Monk's music and jazz in general, I mean you can hear him "thinking" through the music! One of the most illuminating experience in my journey in Music Land.
