alocispepraluger102 Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 keys in hand, ready to go out the door, and trane and elvin playing welcome come through the speakers. one trip is slightly delayed. to have a recording stop a train of activity after having heard it for 47 years, even owning it, is some kind powerful work. which piece of music or artist stops you in those very tracks, after all these years? Hot Ptah Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 Side One of "Out To Lunch." I overheard it in a music store and stayed much longer than I expected, as I had to hear the first three songs. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Ayler's 'Holy Ghost' on Live in Greenwich Village, the Complete Impulse Recordings. Albert's solo is just draw-dropping. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Well, I couldn't quite get that you were going out leaving the record player, or whatever, on. That wouldn't happen to me. But sometimes I'll play something and, even though I've had and loved it for decades, I've just got to sit still and listen to it (unless my wife wants me for something). Last album that happened with was Harold Vick's "Don't look back"; led to me playing it quite a bit in recent months (including yesterday). Another was Shirley Scott's "Drag 'em out". MG Quote
MoGrubb Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 ........ to have a recording stop a train of activity after having heard it for 47 years, even owning it, is some kind powerful work. which piece of music or artist stops you in those very tracks, after all these years? Many, almost any tune can do that to me, depending on my mood. The most consistent ones are Mingus's Better Get Hit In Yo' Soul, from Mingus Mingus, etc. and any of the tunes on CHARLES MINGUS PRESENTS CHARLES MINGUS. They grab my attention, get the blood flowing, can change my moods. Quote
