king ubu
I hate it! Just took disc 1 of the BB box out of the package and hell there's glue all over! #4 won't even be found, and putting it into the computer EAC started having trouble right at the beginning og #3 already (of a total of 4 tracks, that is). Sucks badly! I dropped a mail to Sony Switzerland, asking for a replacement, but hopes are low... what would you do in this case? It seems there's a fabrication error with the cardboard sleeve into where disc 1 is placed - it moves much farther in than all the other discs in all the other boxes. What a downer for sunday morning
sidewinder
Sorry to hear that. If you have problems with getting hold of one through Sony Switzerland let me know and I'll run you off a copy.
king ubu
Thanks for your kind offer, but I'll try for a while... I can still also go to a shop where they know me and tell them I got the disc there, in 1998... (I got it at a cheapo "media market" shoppe for a third less, but there they would definitely not help me...) I'll report back if something new happens... but hellyeah, the JJ box is grooving! I love these slow sexy grooves on all the tracks on disc one!!!
GregK
isn't there a phone # listed in the booklet that you are supposed to call for a replacement?

The disc was still working fine when I last played it (probably 2-3 years ago) and had no glue stains on it... sucks badly! They really could be kind enough and replace it, no? I'm really quite angry!
Shawn
Same thing happened to disc 3 of my Miles/Coltrane box...I hate the design of those metal spine boxes!
king ubu
I like the design... but it sucks if it's a bad idea to leave the discs in the package designed to hold them... sloppy production control, in this case, I guess... or whatever it is, maybe I just got the one badly glued box... Ubu, You can probably buy the original album as a replacement for cheap. That might not be aesthetically satisfying but you will get all the original music (if I remember the tracklist of the box correctly). I sympathize -- I get really pissed off when a favorite disc becomes unplayable or even mildly scratched. Guy

Guy I thought of that, too... but it's a bit annoying a route to go, spending money on the same music again and having an incomplete box (not that I ever thought of selling it, but still...) It's worth a shot. yes, that's what I think - look, this is what I'd consider a high-end product, and if I sold it, I would replace it - I never treated the disc badly or like you shouldn't treat discs, never done anything wrong, and yet still it's gone bad... and this is not a production error that I should have noticed the day after buying, but it's a long-time damage thing... sucks if they'll be ignoring or denying my request, but I'm too pissed to really believe in getting a replacement from just writing a couple of emails... we'll see... Parkertown
There was a thread on this in the past, with several posters, including me, reporting the same problem. I called the Sony number, and they sent me an entirely new disc 1 and A NEW BOX AS WELL!!! Go for it!

I assume it was all in the US, though? Let's see what happens, if they bitch around (if they react to my mail at all), I mention this for sure! porcy62
Yep, it happened the same to me with BB disc four. Then I bought the Mosaic LP box set. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=183-MR-LP
king ubu
I think I better check my Miles metal spine boxes .... Yeah, I checked them all after finding out... no other damages, all discs don't move in as deeply into the cardboard cover as the damaged one - faulty production, I'd say. tonym
I can only commiserate Ubu; it happened to me a while ago --- like ParkerTown said there was a thread on it. I was lucky that HMV replaced my box asap as it was obviously a fault in the product. Like others have said, try contacting Sony. Best of luck. (I'm off to check mine again....) king ubu
I searched for a quarter of an hour but couldn't find that thread - was that pre-organissimo days? It still seems that the search function isn't really working, though, so any help would be appreciated in locating that thread!
Parkertown
I'm not sure that there is really any essential info you'll need in the old thread. Basically, it occurred with many of our boxes and Sony fixed the situation. Just call the number...
tonym
Just a note: I've just this evening put all my BB and JJ discs in separate transparent film cases and slotted them inside the respective boxes; they fit OK and now make it easier to get the discs out. I'm sure the action of 'prizing' those card sleeves apart to remove discs starts the whole process of glue leeching onto the disc surface anyhow. That's a smart idea - alas I've never seen these great small plastic things, except in packages I got from you... will have to look around for something similar here (the usual paper sleeves would be too big to fit in). Thanks also Parkertown - it was more out of the need for consolation that I was looking for that thread anyway... Rosco
My BB box is the same. Disc 1 goes down further than the others. No glue (yet) though. You have my sympathy, although it pales in comparison to what happened with my copy of the Bill Evans Verve box. Sheesh!
B. Clugston
Glue leeched all over Disc 1 of my "Complete" Bitches Brew as well. But I prefer listening to Bitches Brew on vinyl.
