robviti Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Howdy folks, Today I adopted two male cats from the local shelter. It's been a year since my cat Nica died, and I decided it was time to open my heart and home again to some mouse-slappin' critters. As far as names go, I want to pick two jazz names that "go together," i.e. co-leaders, bandmates, etc. If you're interested, take part in my poll (results are non-binding). Feel free to offer other suggestions, serious or not. Quote
Kalo Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I voted for "These ain't bad, but I'd name them..." Cat Anderson and Gato Barbieri! Quote
Kalo Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Ok, I know those guys never played together. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Stan and Chet if they are white! If they're black, maybe Johnny and Lockjaw. Quote
kinuta Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I kind of like characters from Charles Dickens. Smallweed or Micawber are interesting names. Quote
BFrank Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Bird and Diz..............of COURSE! Quote
Free For All Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 (edited) Stan and Chet if they are white! If they're black, maybe Johnny and Lockjaw. ....or Griff and Jaws perhaps? Max & Clifford Sonny & Elvin Jug & Sonny Cannonball & Nat Miles & Trane Lester & Billie Prez & Lady Day Mingus & Dolphy Ella & Louis Edited September 16, 2007 by Free For All Quote
BFrank Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Blue and Junior Miles and Wayne Lee and Wayne Sam and Dave (not exactly jazz, but great names) Quote
vibes Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I voted for "Booker and Jaki," but how about some others? Pepper and Donald (or Byrd) - could work really well if one of the cats is black and white Lester and Teddy Oscar and Lionel Woody and Larry Grachan and Jackie Herbie and Hutch Quote

AndrewHill Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Voted for Stan and Zoot. Another suggestion (and this is what I named my two cats): Tom and Jerry Quote
ValerieB Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 i can't imagine naming cats anything without knowing their personalities! sorry but that makes perfect sense to me. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I suggest: Joki & Jutta. Germans tenorman Joki Freund und pianoplayer Jutta Hip. I got that one... Han and Misha? Quote
porcy62 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 i can't imagine naming cats anything without knowing their personalities! sorry but that makes perfect sense to me. I second that. You couldn't do the same with a son, or even with a dog, for training purpose a dog must have a name and he respond to it, but with cats you can wait for a while and observe their behavior. I mean you can even naming them Clem and Chuck if their will result extremely edgy or crusty. Quote
paul secor Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 How 'bout Pee Wee and Russell? I know, that's pretty bad. Of those previously suggested, I'd vote for Sam & Dave, with Al & Zoot running second. Quote
robviti Posted September 16, 2007 Author Report Posted September 16, 2007 i can't imagine naming cats anything without knowing their personalities! sorry but that makes perfect sense to me. most people don't seem to have much trouble naming their children at birth. imo, pet names are little more than labels we humans use for convenience and sometimes for amusement. this is all of little interest or consequence to the animal. what does matter to me very much are the communications (most of it nonverbal) that exist between human and animal companions. those communications, along with the relationships between all three of us, will be heavily influenced by our individual personalities, i assure you. ^ ^ o o =o= (---) Quote
ASNL77 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I created a similar topic last year for my cats. They are called Dizzy and Bebop and they love their jazz.... Quote
GARussell Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Stan and Chet if they are white! If they're black, maybe Johnny and Lockjaw. Correction! I meant Gerry and Chet! I had played a Stan and Chet CD recently and I guess that was still in the back of my mind, but I meant Gerry, of course. Quote
Spontooneous Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I've already used Dexter and Cecil as cat names, so you can't have them. Wardell, however, is still available. Quote
