Cliff Englewood Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 The “Artists” thread is starting to look like a morgue/cemetery, pretty soon there'll be more posts about the dead than the living. Quote
7/4 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Sounds like a good idea to me. (still hoping for a classical folder!) Quote
RDK Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 The “Artists” thread is starting to look like a morgue/cemetery, pretty soon there'll be more posts about the dead than the living. This might sound silly, but I'd prefer not. I certainly know what you mean, but I'd hate to see dead artists ghettoized in such a way. Their music lives on beyond them, after all, and there's no reason to seperate them in such a way, even in tribute/RIP threads. Quote
paul secor Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I don't want to see so many musicians pass that a separate thread is needed. Quote

It's not fault of anybody if we are getting older and some of our musical benchmarks are passing away. Listen to younger musicians or to Bach and Pergolesi if you won't the mausoleum thread. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 The idea seems depressing to me and even a little creepy. Hey, i'll check out the RIP section if so and so has kick the bucket. No thanks. Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 but maybe a classical folder........................................................ Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 For a second I thought it was a plea for a thread to ask for "rips". Quote
MoGrubb Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Maybe it could be titled the "In Memory Of...." forum. [Let'er rip.] Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 Maybe it could be titled the "In Memory Of...." forum. This is a good idea. People who want to post things like, "this is sad news etc, etc" or "I was shocked to hear this news, very sad etc, etc" could do so and if you want to talk about an individual's music you could do so in the "Artists" thread. Also, I sure Pavarotti would be thrilled with the fact that in death he can start a heated debate on an internet message board about Opera/Jazz that references Ronald Reagan. It's how we'd all like to be remembered. Quote

I'm more bothered by the large number of "happy birthday xy"-threads than by the r.i.p. one - it would be nice if people would use the search function instead and post the b-day wishes (of the living and the dead) in an existing thread, rather than having new ones that just go five times "happy birthday satchmo thanks for all the music"! ValerieB Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 I don't want to see so many musicians pass that a separate thread is needed. the sad fact is that it will be happening more and more! wish like hell we could control it. i think an RIP thread is a good, practical idea. although, on second thought, i like seeing each person have their own headline when we view new posts.
