Uncle Skid Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Almost anything by Cecil Taylor... but, it was a good friend that introduced me to Cecil, so maybe that rule doesn't always apply! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Don't play any music for "non-musical" friends, play anything for "musical friends" - just ask Lazaro and Skid. Quote
Parkertown Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 "Play this record, and all your friends will leave"! Quote
Hot Ptah Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I can't play any of my music for nearly all of my friends. There are three or four who enjoy it all, but they now live in distant states. Otherwise there is not a single album I would think of playing for anyone. Quote

jazzbo Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I don't play music for many friends, most that I do will listen to most anything Brazilian and any of the blues, and funk and rock I have (though some not the Dead) and most jazz that's swing or mainstream oriented. I have one friend I can play almost anything except avant garde jazz with/for. . . he just doesn't enjoy New Thing and beyond much at all. Quote

jazzbo Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 NO, I can play anything around you. . .almost. Just there's too many miles between us! Quote
Noj Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Most of my friends long since banned me from playing "music without words." Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 bob rusch told aloc that people who like free jazz are mostly loners, at least in their jazz listening. Quote

Aggie87 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Aggie87 wonders if Bob Rusch told Aloc twice. Then Aggie87 realized it was probably an accidental double-post. (PS - can we stop with the third person speak?) Quote
mikelz777 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Unfortunately, my family doesn't like jazz. My 11 and 13 year old don't have a choice, they have to listen to my jazz when I listen to it. They'll grudgingly admit that a lot of what I play isn't bad but they wouldn't choose to listen to it. My wife hates anything jazz unless it's a nice, melodic piano-based jazz trio. I have to listen to most of my jazz on headphones or while I'm alone or only with my daughters. Quote

7/4 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I'm careful about what I play for other people. I do have friends who listen to my music, but with one exception, they don't live around here. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I just play whatever I want for whomever I want. Most of my friends are pretty cool and appreciative of my musical taste. As I likewise am or try to be. Quote

Parkertown Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Another for Shawn's avatar! I mean: Parkertown like Shawn's avatar too, and thinks he should never change it. 'Scepting if it's for a 'nother pic of that Earth Angel, Ms. Johannson... Quote
