monkboughtlunch
Miles Davis late 50s French soundtrack masterpiece is apparently being reissued on CD by Verve on Sept. 18. Apparently they will put all the bonus tracks at the tail end of the original Lp sequence. This should me a major improvement as the current import CD published in the late 80s suffers from the poor sequencing decision of bunching all song takes together. GregK
Great! I've never bought this one, so now's my chance!
AndrewHill
I'm quite happy with the Fontana edition from the late 80's, and it includes a number of bonus tracks!
John L
I'm quite happy with the Fontana edition from the late 80's, and it includes a number of bonus tracks! Yes, I have the Fontana edition too, and it presents the original LP first. That is indeed important. I love the soundtrack itself, but don't like listening through the multiple out takes for this one.
king ubu
I think french Universal put out what seemed to be sort of a "definitive edition" (in their Anniversary or Heritage or whatever series of high-gloss digipacks, that series has great sound). Definitely no need for yet another version... (I myself also have the old Fontana CD so far, only).
paul secor
I have the old Fontana CD for all of the music and a Speakers Corner LP for better sonics. I'm sticking with what I have. Edited September 2, 2007 by paul secor
Tom Storer
I just saw René Urtreger last week. He's still swinging!
Claude
Is this new reissue different from the 2003 Universal France digipak CD? http://www.amazon.fr/Ascenseur-pour-léchaf...p;sr=1-1#disc_1
Teasing the Korean
The version I have has the LP sequence followed by the same tracks minus the reverb.
Shawn
I thought the Fontana CD reissue has the orginal album (with reverb) together at the end of the CD?

JohnBlutarski
so what's the story about the reverb? JB
Claude
The studio recording sounds completely dry, but for the film version a lot of reverb was added to the recording to create a different atmosphere. The CD reissues usually have both the film soundtrack and the raw studio recording. http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=AscenseurNew
Shawn
I actually prefer it with the reverb...
Teasing the Korean
I actually prefer it with the reverb... I do too, it gives it more of a creepy, noir quality. That said, it's nice to have the option to listen to the tracks dry.
Free For All
Anyone actually pick this up yet? I've heard that there are just the original 10 tracks, no alternates. The listing at Amazon shows all 26 tracks, but a couple of reviews said there were only 10. So what's the deal?

The listing at Amazon shows all 26 tracks, but a couple of reviews said there were only 10. So what's the deal? To answer my own question, I did see a copy of this, and there are indeed only the 10 cuts from the original soundtrack. No alternates or extra anything at the end. Which comes to under 30 minutes of music on this CD. Seems like a big waste to not even include the extras at all. I guess we should be glad to see these titles get re-released, but I'm very disappointed in Verve. Again.
Harold_Z
I have all 10 tracks on a Miles "Compact Jazz" (Phillips), along with the Miles led session with Bird, and 4 tracks from "LeGrand Jazz". It's out of print, but it's pretty easy to find in used shops and online. The audio is more than acceptable.
Kalo
That's it! I'm just going to buy the effin movie. Seriously, though, The Criterion DVD apparently has a documentary about the making of the soundtrack as an extra. Anyone seen it?
WD45
I like the original cover, but I also dig the Columbia LP version, too.
