On the other hand, Jim, I don't say "truly blunt, crude, and offensive-in-the-eye-of-the-recipient" in every single post, do I? Whereas Clem can't seem to go two posts without insulting SOMEONE (not always me). And if his shootdowns are really as calculated as all that, well it just makes it that much worse, doesn't it? I mean, my opinions and sense of humor may be offensive to some, but at least its honest.

edit - deleting my non-value added comments, sorry.

war cash, blood soup and clemdestine underground wars including sodomy..... hell, after all a real party going on here again, after these drab past months... let's ban the might together!

Yep! :tup

I'm not a big fan of posts/threads that "call out" specific board members. :tdown

Funny, I've been absorbing Clem's abuse for years, and nobody objected then. Must be because he insists on calling me "Alfie."

I think there's a difference between a thread which through mutual consent escalates into an insult-laced catfight (which is my recollection of said "abuse") and a thread started for the sole purpose of trashing another board member.

Personally I like most of Clem's contributions to the board, though not the aggressive/confrontational approaches he occasionally takes.

Anyway, I think Jim A should lock or delete this thread.

Well Jim S. has said it all. Alexander habitually makes nasty, extremely insensitive comments on issues of much greater significance than whether or not the Beastie Boys have artistic merit, yet because Clem keeps giving him a hard time, he makes a silly "proposal" like this one and tries to sidetrack other threads with this nonsense.

You're not doing yourself any favors here, Alex.

Sorry Ubu, but I find the attached image in your post pretty offensive and tasteless, considering that is a real picture of real dead people: Gen. Dalla Chiesa and his wife killed by mafia. A brave, faithful and honest policeman slaughtered for having done his duty. Totally out of contest in such thread.

I'm just trying to force the issue into the open. I'm tired of Clem's crap, and especially the way he seems to get a free pass on it. Was this thread the best idea I've ever had? Probably not, and yet at least some people on the board do seem to agree with me and have said so in private posts. I don't want Clem banned, btw, just held accountable for the stuff he says. You know, the way I always end up being held accountable and all that.

Also, can you think of the last "nasty, extremely insensitive" comment that I've "habitually" made? Because it seems to me that it's been quite a while. Like, six months or more, perhaps.

Any thread that references Prof. Irwin Corey is alright with me. :P

This thread's got everything, accusations, feuding, comedy, tragedy, perversion and all...! :)

Good point, Porcy. The picture is horrifying. Although, I must add that it does highlight what happened to this apparently good man. I wouldn't have known about this situation otherwise. Sometimes these pictures serve to generate some healthy outrage.

Apologies if my post offended someone... it was indeed of bad taste - anyway, I just read an article about current activities of Italian mafia spreading all over Europe in recent years (and expected to become much worse - slaughters such as the one in Germany of a few weeks ago will take part more often, it seems...) - I posted it because of Sangrey's use of language ("tough guy code of honor" - or honour, as I should say - that was where la cosa nostra was the first thing I thought of).

Anyway, I'll remove the photo, but that's of no use if you who quoted my post w/photo won't remove it, either.

And one more thing: I don't think the photo is offensive at all... it merely shows how brutal the mafia proceeds - and people ought to be much more aware of that, in my humble opinion. Still it might be offensive in this particular contest.

So again: please accept my apologies.

Ok, I did remove the photo - I might now ask the others who still show it in their quotes of my post to remove it, too!

Trotsky-style disappearance... thanks for deleting the photo, too, Conn & Porcy. Appreciated!

The only way people are "held accountable" on a bulletin board is for other people to reply with their arguments or reproaches. That's what you do to clem, so in that sense you are "holding him responsible." I think you want more people to do the same--but unfortunately, none of us can control how anyone else posts. You want others to back you up against clem and do it publicly. If they don't, what are you going to do? What can you do? Again, my advice is--drop it. Ignore him. Let it go.

I don't think that's unfortunate - I think it's grand. We're all just people here and we have our foibles and our irritating hobby horses, which we never fail to mention at least once a month - it's instead of PMT :) and sometimes our tone leaves much to be desired. And so what? If we were in a bar, blows might occur. Here they don't and that's a damn sight better.

Ubu, apologize accepted.

I would have used some movie's pict, like "Goodfellas","The Godfather" or "The Sopranos" to remark Sangrey's concept, I'd find it more appropriate in this contest.

And yes, italian mafias, "'ndragheta" in the recent german slaughter, are a worldwide problem. Like Yakuza, russian mafia or triad society. I was personally affected by mafia: the brother of a good friend died killed by accident in a mafia's payback in Palermo some years ago.

In a thread dedicated to such thing I'd find appropriate Ubu's post.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Glad you're not angry at me... I was in a hurry posting and indeed a film pic would have been a better idea.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting, and I think it's pretty...lame. Wimpy. Pussified. And dare I say cowardly? To say nothing of dangerous?

Fight your own battles. If others come to your support, beautiful. Welcome them with grace (and, if need be, cunning). But if they don't, well, there you go, suck it up and do it yourself.

It's only a chat forum, not a Cosmic Clash Between Good And Evil To Determine The Future Of Humankind And Their Music, dig? I mean, I'll get into it over shit that matters to me (most recently w/Allen Lowe over latter-day Max Roach), but geez, do you think I lose sleep over it, much less plot "revenge" by starting a "Why Does Stoopid Ass Allen Lowe Not Like The Loadstar?" type thread?

Face it - some people hear like Clem, some tolerate him, some don't care one way or the other, some are on a case-by-case basis w/thim, and some people don't like him. Same as, I'd imaging, with every other "poster of personality" here, there, and/or everywhere. So what are you looking for, somebody to step up and say, "Dammit Clem, stop fucking w/Alfie, he's RIGHT you know!" If somebody actually does that, hey, bonus points for you, but, damn man, how lame is it to solicit that type shit, especially in a dedicated thread? Very lame, I think. Sorry, but.....yo. It just is.

You're in effect saying that Clem is a bully and you're too weak to handle him. If Clem was a Big Bad World Recognized Expert and you were an Object Of International Sympathy For Being Born With One Brain Lobe Who Neverhteless Functions With Remarkable Skill, I'd be on your side all the way. But he's not and you're not. You're both just two guys who know what they like and why they like it. And it bugs you that you can't get this motherfucker who is your "equal" to back down/off. So rather than figure out a way to handle it yourself - one way or the other - you come looking for others to fight for/with you & hopefully talk enough smack about your nemesis to bring him down to size. Sorry, dude, but that is so not cool.

If I was the predatorial type (of any sort), I'd get a whiff of this and think EASY PREY. And I would be right, I'm afraid.

Do you want to be easy prey?

Well, it's part of the dishonesty. Now again, I'll eat my words if proven wrong, but he'll often write things such as:

has been on this trip since the 8-26-71 Gaelic Park gig in the Bronx (i was little too young to hit the Fillmore shows before then) which suggests that he was already old enough (say 16 or so) to appreciate such a concert. Yet he was likely 4 or 5 years old in 1971. Now again: I'll be the first to apologize to Clem if I am proven wrong on this hypothesis, but if I am correct then this serves as a typical of example of his dishonesty while posting (he might be an honest guy in real life--who knows.)

As Jim said he's a "creation" and Clem has said so in a few responses.

There are times when I think I have his (uh, the "creator's) age pinned down, mainly based on his punk music preferences. 39 1/2! Wait...make that 42. Or is it....Whereas with he's making country or rootsy recs he comes across another decade older some of the time, or at least when he's on the road. But after seeing what all he likes in the classical realm I've come to the conclusion that I'd better add another 100 years to his age. But he's a young 140-something!

Which made the Gaelic Park ref all the more funny, or to me as I know someone who was there. He knows his Deadspeak (too) and it was a great reference to drop. Though you never know, he easily could have been there at some age between 1 and 104. (Actually I think he's referenced this before, and may have also mentioned the trains in background , though my mind could be tricking me again.)
