GregK Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Michigan is so overrated, every year. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 As they say, that's why they play the games. Quote
paul secor Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Biggest upset in college football that I can remember. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted September 1, 2007 Author Report Posted September 1, 2007 this will ultimately cost the michigan head coach his job. Quote
T.D. Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 I can't effin' believe it! Just got home, and am going to have to check scores to make sure you aren't jerking my chain... Agreed, this is the biggest college FB upset I can recall. Serves U-M right for scheduling a bunch of presumed patsies (who are eager to visit the "Big House" and get a decent payday) at home. OTOH, it'll encourage various other eternal "opponents" such as SUNY-Buffalo, which could turn out to be a mixed blessing. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted September 1, 2007 Author Report Posted September 1, 2007 (edited) aloc compliments the fine veteran michigan radio crew for telling as it was and appreciating the other team's effort. had this occurred with the buckeyes, the announcers would have been bawling. one sportswriter worth reading: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../709010383/1054 Edited September 1, 2007 by alocispepraluger102 Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 App presumed patsies? They were Div II Champs for the past two years. Certainly a HUGE upset, but I think App may have been assessed poorly. Quote

Certainly a HUGE upset, but I think App may have been assessed poorly. Yes, good point, I spoke too quickly without knowing anything about App. St. Maybe U-M even deserves a measure of credit for scheduling them instead of some clear patsy like SUNY-Buff. I read on the newswire that App. St. now has the nation's longest win streak... Quote
Brad Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 That's incredible. They'll be out for blood next week. I feel sorry for whoever that is. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 App presumed patsies? They were Div II Champs for the past two years. Certainly a HUGE upset, but I think App may have been assessed poorly. Yeah, the first instinct is to say "Division 1-AA, must be patsies" but they're obviously a good team with a winning tradition. But coming to Michigan and pulling off the upset ... Quote

paul secor Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 I have to admit that I didn't know much about Appalachian St. before I posted - I know more now - but it still was a stunning upset. Quote

Chalupa Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 That was the first time ever a Division I-AA team had beaten a ranked team. Michigan can say buh-bye to the national championship. Quote

GregK Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 Little ol' App State beat great big ol' Michigan State? Why, I never... No, they beat Michigan. Beating Michigan State wouldn't be such a shock. Quote
MoGrubb Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 (edited) Huh. Appalacian State is a pretty small school, up in the NC mountains(beautiful country). Edited September 2, 2007 by MoGrubb Quote

ghost of miles Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Stephen Dubner, co-author of FREAKONOMICS, is a 1984 Appalachian State grad. From his essay in the NY Times today: As for the football team: It wasn’t very good and it wasn’t my scene. I went to a few games and I knew a few of the players — nice guys, hard-working — but it made no lasting impression. While I can hum the Michigan fight song, I have no idea what the Mountaineers’ fight song is, or was, or even if they have one. What I do remember is that the mascot, a scruffy mountaineer named Yosef — that’s a “mountain” rendering of Joseph, I assure you, not Hebrew — fired his shotgun skyward after each touchdown. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Michigan can say buh-bye to the national championship. The idiotic way they run the "playoffs", Michigan will be there and the Appalachian State game will be forgotten/forgiven, though Michigan will get a new coach. Fu** the whole deal. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Thass nuthin'. Just wait till powerhouse University of Akron Zips take out the Buckeyes this Saturday! Quote
