rostasi Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Great! (just don't tell CS 500 that you're linking Kerouac with jazz... ) Quote
Alexander Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Man, for the days when TV talk show hosts would play jazz while they interviewed guests! Quote

ghost of miles Posted March 12, 2022 Author Report Posted March 12, 2022 (edited) Upping this today in honor of Jack Kerouac’s centennial: Jazz and Jack Kerouac In addition to the description in my initial post, the program includes commentary from Indiana University musicologist Phil Ford, author of the book Dig: Sound and Music in Hip Culture (and these days co-host of the fascinating podcast Weird Studies). Teasing the Korean Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 Poor Steve Allen. He goes from working with Jack Kerouac to complaining about today's kids listening to demoralizing rap music. Quote
BillF Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 Great theme, David. I recently reread On the Road with its plethora of hip jazz references and discovered the album with Al and Zoot not too long ago. Quote

Did you refer to the "Jazz and Jack Kerouac" chapter in my book? Quote

It’s been a long time since I listened back to the original program, but I’m pretty sure I quoted from it at some point. I also linked to your online posting of your essay in the program’s web post and at the top of this thread. It’s definitely the best piece I’ve read on the topic. Quote
Larry Kart Posted March 13, 2022 Report Posted March 13, 2022 Didn't mean to blow my own horn, but I liked that piece. Quote
