jostber Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) The classic Sun Ra record "The Solar-Myth Approach" vol.1 and 2 have been reissued several times by different record labels in the last years. Does anyone know which of these that have the best mastering and sound? clifford_thornton Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I don't know all the issues, but I've heard a few things on Sunspots and they've sounded quite good, considering the source. Quote
jostber Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 Thanks, I'll check out those Sunspots! Quote
Rosco Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 I have a version on Charly from 2000 (cat no. CDGR 294-2), which sounds very decent. I would assume any subsequent Charly reissues to be much the same. Snapper is a subsiduary of Charly, so again I'd imagine that would be the same, too. IIRC, all the CDs I have on Sunspot are needle-drops. Mind you, looking for the 'best sound' of a Sun Ra session might be the ultimate Quixotic pursuit. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 I believe the Silvas are from the tapes. At least that's for sure on Seasons. It's good enough that I replaced my original vinyl with it! Quote

jostber Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 There's seems to be 2 audiophile 180 gram vinyl releases of these too on Soundstagedirect: http://www.soundstagedirect.com/Sun-Ra-The...1-BYG-40H.shtml http://www.soundstagedirect.com/Sun-Ra-The...2-BYG-41H.shtml Quote
