The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 If you go to Advanced Search on Amazon, you come up with a huge number of hits, most of which are in fact Black & Blue releases. I didn't get too many when I searched for "milt buckner" on Amazon.com. What does advanced search do that search doesn't, Dan? MG Well, I doubt it will "find" Milt Buckner releases but you can put in "black & blue" under label and see most of those "Definitive" reissues. Oh, I see. Thanks Dan. MG Quote
NaturalSoul Posted September 24, 2007 Author Report Posted September 24, 2007 Thank you, MG. Milt Buckner is a player that i've never heard. Must check those out! (Great sleeves, too. ) Milt was a great organist - in the pre-Jimmy Smith vein, of course. Applied his "locked hands" method of playing piano to the organ. Was so short, his feet couldn't reach the bass pedals when he was sitting on the stool. Two heavily recommended examples of Milt from here are Illinois Jacquet - Go power (live trio, Jacquet, Buckner & Alan Dawson - play very loud) - Cadet, not too hard to get I imagine. Milt Buckner - Green onions - Black & Blue (with Roy Gaines - blues guitarist from Texas) MG I've seen 'Go Power' floating around different places before, but never pulled the trigger. Where's the easiest place to find Black & Blue albums? I dunno 'bout Arizona, man. Surprisingly hard to find. I tried a number of US on line stores - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, CD Universe, Dusty Groove, Jazz record mart - zilch. It's not at Amazon.uk or .fr or at Blue Moon (the firm that distributes B&B) or at my other usual French ports of call. But I've found this at FNAC http://www4.fnac.com/Shelf/article.aspx?PR...96e8d7&Fr=0 The trouble is, the image is too small to see the title - but I think it's the second reissue of "Green onions" and there's no track list. However, you can listen to the tracks - if the first one is "Green onions", that's it. But when I tried to listen, Windows gave me some spiel about not knowing what the thing was, so I gave up. If you've got some other kind of software (I alway have problems listening to samples), you might come up trumps. Otherwise, there's e-bay. Ah! The one at FNAC is the right one, but it's also on e-bay France http://cgi.ebay.fr/MILT-BUCKNER-GREEN-ONIO...VQQcmdZViewItem It's also on the UK e-bay - same disc. Auction ends 25 Sep. Price, at moment, is excellent for a deleted album. MG Dunno why the uK link didn't come out. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MILT-BUCKNER-GREEN-O...1QQcmdZViewItem They've got that Green Onions album on Amazon for close to 50 bux! Thank you for the info. I seemed to find a cd copy of 'Go Power' on amazon for fairly cheap, i'll try and order that one soon. Don't know why the EBAY links ain't coming up, i'll keep a look out for the Green Onion album, plus other B&B stuff. Thanks for the info. Quote
NaturalSoul Posted September 24, 2007 Author Report Posted September 24, 2007 But back to Clifford, it seems my copy of Mr Honky Tonk is on backorder at DeepDiscount. errr, it might be a while 'til i get that. Quote

NaturalSoul Posted September 24, 2007 Author Report Posted September 24, 2007 Just found two Onzy Matthews LPs featuring Clifford (and curtis amy) on tenor. I went for the cheap one "Sounds For The 60's." Not expecting a whole lot, but it will be a nice addition. Quote

NaturalSoul Posted September 28, 2007 Author Report Posted September 28, 2007 Noticed you got the Mosaic select today MG. How does Clifford play on it? Back to Milt Buckner too, I've ordered "Go Power" and another one of his Argo dates of which the title slipes my mind right now. Looking forward to hearing him. Quote

I think he makes what could have been material that was rather like that of Gerald Wilson (not that that's bad, of course) sound and feel radically different. MG Quote
