Guest Bill Barton Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 (edited) Due to a computer glitch there was no playlist last week (8/27/07) for Bright Moments. Pianist David Haney was my special guest and most of the program focused on his music. ___________________________________________________________________________ Bright Moments with Bill Barton KBCS Bellevue-Seattle 91.3 FM online 24/7 Monday, September 3, 2007 0000-0200 Pacific Time Rahsaan Roland Kirk – Baby Let Me Shake Your Tree – Rahsaan Rahsaan – Atlantic Von Freeman – Footprints – Live at the Dakota – Premonition Fred Anderson/Marilyn Crispell/Hamid Drake – Destiny 6 – Destiny – Okkadisk Eric Dolphy – Gazzelloni – Out to Lunch – Blue Note Otomo Yoshihide’s New Jazz Orchestra – Gazzelloni – Otomo Yoshihide’s New Jazz Orchestra Plays Eric Dolphy’s Out to Lunch – Doubt Music The New York Art Quartet – Banging on the White House Door – Mohawk – Fontana The New York Art Quartet – Perceiving Passerby’s – 35th Reunion – DIW Family of Percussion & Archie Shepp – For TiRoro – Here Comes the Family – Nagara Tony Scott – Mayibue Afrika! Lazaro Vega Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 What does Mark O'Leary play? Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 (edited) What does Mark O'Leary play? He plays guitar, Lazaro. In addition to the trio CD with Cuong Vu and Tom Rainey (Leo CD LR 475) he has five other discs available on Leo Feigin's label, all - intriguingly enough - in the trio format but with radically different instrumentations (including meetings with Matt Shipp & Mat Maneri, Tomasz Stanko & Billy Hart, Uri Caine & Ben Perowsky plus Steve Swallow & Pierre Favre). The Stanko/Hart disc got some fine reviews. I'm looking forward to hearing it. Actually, I'm looking forward to hearing all of 'em. He's a major talent. The only one I have is Waiting, which is inspired by the works of Samuel Beckett (the liners say "titles are referenced to Samuel Beckett"). It's a very interesting date indeed. He's credited on the liners: electric guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar, implements, e-bow, electronics & loops. I've been playing lots of this in connection with Cuong Vu's performance in the Earshot Jazz Festival. Many of the selections on Bright Moments are linked to upcoming local/regional performances, both by Seattle-area musicians and touring musicians. Edited October 24, 2007 by Bill Barton Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Cuong and Raney have both played live on the air here (Raney twice now) but I've never heard them together. Sounds like someone to be checking out! Quote

Sounds like someone to be checking out! Cuong Vu is back living in the Puget Sound area and teaches here at The University of Washington. By the way, Mark O'Leary is from Ireland (I'm not sure if he still lives there or not.) Quote
