ghost of miles Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 (edited) The beat goes on--times like these make me really grateful for WKCR. Jim's right about it probably being a blessing for Max... still a damn sad day for jazz. Edited August 16, 2007 by ghost of miles Quote
rostasi Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Been listening all day. Trying to tape the interviews. Props to the guy who usually does the classical programming. He's admitted to not being as familiar with Max's work as most of the rest of the crew, but he's being a real trooper about presentation of the tunes. Sad but enjoyable broadcast. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Recording the whole darn thing on the computer. It's good to have big hard drives........ This is a fantastic presentation, even as most of it is on the spur of the moment. Quote

7/4 Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Goes to show how little I know! Max and I share a birthday, so every year I've listened to it. Quote
Brad Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 On Saturday, they played the interview that Phil Schaap did with Max in 1997. Really great. Quote
Big Al Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 (edited) I have to confess that my opinion of Phil Schaap is changing for the positive during this whole broadcast. I can hear that his heart is really in this, and the old interviews have been illuminating. He still talks to much for my taste, but the music has been great, and he sounds a lot more self-deprecating than I remember ever hearing. Is anyone else happy that WKCR has had to put a note on their site saying they're having server overload? Nice to know a lot of people want to listen to Max. Edited August 21, 2007 by Big Al Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 22, 2007 Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 today has been a glorious day of listening. Quote
trane_fanatic Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 (edited) I don't know how you guys get on. I get kicked out after a half-hour and that's when I don't get told "The server is full" 99% of the time when I am even able to connect. Edited August 22, 2007 by trane_fanatic Quote

Based on that 1997 interview and one from about 3 or so years ago, you could tell there was a lot of affection and mutual respect between the two of them. Quote
rostasi Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 It's wrapping up now - what a great week of music! Quote
