ghost of miles Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Got a nice deal at a local store today on one that's not too hard to find online (reissued in 2003, just before the takeover): Gene Ammons/James Moody, CHICAGO CONCERT, w/Jodie Christian on piano, Cleveland Eaton on bass, Marshall Thompson on drums. North Park Hotel, Nov. 21, 1971... any of our past or present resident Chicagoites at this show, by any chance? Quote

Quincy Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Today I picked up a $10.46 used copy of Duke Ellington's Jan. 1943 Carnegie Hall Concert which introduced "Black, Brown, and Beige." Quote
street singer Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 (edited) I had managed to pick up a few OJC's over the years - mostly key titles - prior to the Concord buyout. My large purchases began with the Concord summer blow-out sale of '06...I believe I ordered about 50 or so single discs plus the Coltrane and Evans box sets. My buying slowed down considerably after that large purchase...until about 6 months ago when I began to see numerous albums on my "must buy before they disappear forever" list begin to...well, disappear - possibly forever. I've been in full-on "panic buy mode" ever since, submitting several large orders to Newbury Comics and various other online retailers, and, most recently, splurging on the Concord and J&R sales. I've managed to acquire a large number of the increasingly hard-to-find discs without paying the ridiculous amounts they are going for...just took a little legwork. These things are still out there - it just takes some effort to find them at a decent price! Here's a list of the titles I currently have on order. Big Wheel Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Are there still cheap OJCSs available at Newbury? I'm likely going to be in Boston next month for work and would stop by if there are. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 30, 2008 Author Report Posted January 30, 2008 Managed to find a neatly priced copy of Duane Tatro's Jazz for Moderns a few weeks ago. Three Jimmy Heaths, too ... Quote
street singer Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Managed to find a neatly priced copy of Duane Tatro's Jazz for Moderns a few weeks ago. That's one of the discs I'm still having trouble finding...at a reasonable price, atleast. Quote
street singer Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) Have run across several very hard-to-find OJC's tonight...all being offered for sale by Newbury Comics on EBay. Maybe somebody has been looking for these? (I know I was - I've already snatched up copies for myself! ) Sonny Criss 'Rockin In Rhythm' Woody Shaw 'Song of Songs' Nat Adderley 'In The Bag' These are a steal... For the sake of comparison, take a look at the prices they're going for on Amazon: Sonny Criss 'Rockin In Rhythm' (AMAZON) Nat Adderley 'In The Bag' (AMAZON) Woody Shaw 'Song Of Songs' (AMAZON) Better be quick... Now - who wants to hook me up with Shelly Manne's 'Gambit', Duane Tatro's 'Jazz For Moderns' or Mal Waldron's 'Mal/3' at a reasonable price? Edited January 31, 2008 by street singer Quote

True. The shipping cost is also significantly cheaper when ordering directly through their website... Quote
