Chuck Nessa Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Too complicated to list everything. I placed 2 massive orders during the Concord dump and have placed countless small orders since then. Quote
montg Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 My approach has been similiar to Chuck's. My most recent small purchase was picking up Blue Mitchell's 'Sure thing" and Clifford Jordan's 'Mosaic'. Some other small ojc purchases (looking at my purchase history over the last 6 months from amazon) include: McPherson's Mood [Limited Edition] [Audio CD] Charles Mcpherson (a very nice session, nice to hear Buster Williams) Long Night/March of the Siamese Children [Audio CD] Strozier, Frank Workin' Out [Audio CD] Timmons, Bobby Swinging Sounds [Audio CD] Shelly Manne & His Men (still ambivalent about this one) The Freelance Years: The Complete Riverside and Contemporary Recordings: Sonny Rollins (pretty good deal,30 bucks, considering I didn't hav WOW, Freedom Suite, and one or two sessions on this set) Music to Listen to Don Ewell By [Audio CD] Ewell, Don (good music, good sound too) Far Cry (20 Bit Mastering) Eric Dolphy (I love Dolphy more and more every time I hear him) Guitar Groove [Audio CD] Thomas, Rene (outstanding!) jazzbo Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Well, I like them all fine. . . they're each a little different. I guess I like "Jazz in the New Orleans Tradition" and the Beverly Caverns discs the most. Quote

mikeweil Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 I knew you'd all be too lazy to list them all ..... I, too, was afraid of looking at the sheer number of them, but wanted to be honest to myself, at least. So, how many, do you estimate? Quote
mikeweil Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) p.s. I was real mad that Concord would not ship to Europe during their sellout - it probably was (and still is) against their distribution contract with Universal in Europe. I depended on what Zweitausend offered or threw in their sellout bins or what amazon sellers offered at reasonable prices. Got about 10 discs from Newbury Comics ebay auctions during the last two weeks - still real cheap, although shipping is not. Edited August 12, 2007 by mikeweil Quote

But still, so many more to get! And several I've given up hope on finding (Lucky's "Happy Days", Woody Shaw's "Song of Songs", Don Patterson's "New York Dues", for instance), and many that are probably tough to find (stuff such as Lennie Niehaus' series on Contemporary). and also the RVGs of Wes Montgomery's "Full House" and the Cannonball Quintet - though these (as the Garland Prelude) are likely not going OOP too soon... but I got them cheap (and the Garland I got since I just wanted some by him, got it with Groovy). I enjoy the Atlantic and Blue Note George Lewis sessions, I've been meaning to pick up one of the OJCs. Now's the time I guess. As Lon writes, the Beverley Caverns sessions are quite good. From the historical point of view, "George Lewis of New Orleans (Eclipse Alley Five and Original Zenith Brass Band)" is of interest. It was one of the most "noble" attempts at the time to do an authentic recreation of the New Orleans sound around the turn of the century. Quote

Clunky Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 My panic buying has come gone in waves, I bought loads when Chuckk first flagged this up three years ago. The very real recent disappearance has had me filing orders regularly form amazon market place sellers as well mainly UK vinyl titles of various ages ( Esquires, Vogues, Transtlantics, OJC etc). Recently added around 20 in the last 3 months. The closure of Fopp in UK has been quite a blow as I tended to pick up ZXY OJC when went there. They were always ÂŁ3 to ÂŁ5 , whilst their finish isn't quite as good they're not bad. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) Of course, it depends on when you think the panic started. I guess with me it would have been about March 2004, when I saw a note of the sale on the Fantasy site. But probably, I didn't think about it seriously until 2005. And I've always bought Fantasy records in large quantities; Fantasy had been the biggest company in my collection since the 1970s. So that's why I haven't needed to go quite so nutty as some. This is (date order) what I've bought since then; it comes to 75 albums on 61 CDs (I've excluded a couple that have been issued by Lonehill etc, but have included some issued by Japanese Victor and UK Ace). mikeweil Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) I've still got a bloody long list! MG I'm glad I had paid OJCs more attention than most members - I already had all the Don Patterson, Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, Blue Mitchell, Kenny Burrell, Herbie Mann, Sonny Rollins (Riverside and Contemporary) and many other single and twofer CDs, Yusef Lateef, Abbey Lincoln, Ernie Henry on LP, as well as the Monk (both), Modern Jazz Quartet, Wes Montgomery, Joe Henderson, Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus, Bill Evans Riverside, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins Prestige box sets - that helped quite a bit.
