I just don't get how the bell cracked soon after being installed in 1859, so they turned it around and for 148 years the other side of the bell hasn't cracked! Now how am I supposed to sleep???? :eye:

Ah, but it was OFFICIALS who did it. Had it been POLITICIANS who had taken the decision, it would have been subject to all sorts of sabotage by anarchists in black hats in the 1890s. Unlike politicians, officials over here are permanent, so what they do lasts.

used to listen to lots of bbc newspats and hearing ben live on the hour a couple times a day was sweet music, like at new years and other times.
