Tjazz Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Has anybody heard this LP? Just saw it a record store. Don Byron and Buddy Collette also play on the record (besides 7 other guys). Funny, Allmusic shows the total recording time is 62:46. Didn't know that there were LPs with such long playing times. Thought the longest playing times for LPs were about 45 minutes. Swinger Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I have it on cd. Really good one! Don't miss it! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I have a couple of single LP Soul Notes that are about an hour in length. They sound okay. Bluiett is a serious dude - I'd recommend it on name alone (don't have it though). Quote
B. Clugston Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I highly recommend this album. Some beautiful arrangements on it. Quote
Tom in RI Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 As to times on lps, the longest at the time of its release was a Todd Rundgren lp that, if memory serves, had sides of 38 and 37 minutes. A jazz release that stands out in this regard is the Milt Jackson reissue on Savoy, Second Nature, with 4 sides over 25 minutes each. Quote
RDK Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 One can get over 30 min. pre LP side, but the sound generally suffers for it, with decreased bass frequencies (at least) because the grooves - technically "groove" - need to be made closer together. Quote
kh1958 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 https://www.gofundme.com/hamiet-bluietts-recovery Hamiet Bluiett has had some severe health problems and it sounds like he will not play again. His granddaughter is trying to raise money to help him with his medical bills. "My name is Anaya Bluiett and I am the grand daughter of Hamiet Bluiett, world known Baritone saxophonist. Recently, he's been hospitalized for several months because he has had numerous strokes and seizures. He was in the critical intensive care unit, then the hospital and two rehabs to help him get back to himself but it's still going to take some time. I am trying to raise money for him for his bills and traveling expenses, since he no longer will be able to work. I'm working on moving him back to Saint Louis from New York, where he is currently living. I've been traveling back and forth to take care of him. He doesn't like asking people for help, but sometimes that's what you have to do, to be able to help yourself. He's been playing the baritone saxophone for decades and music is what he loves more than anything. For him to have to retire is going to be the most difficult part to deal with for him. If there's anything you'll can do to help, it would be greatly appreciated. You can look him up on google to find out any more information about him that you would like to know. Thank you." Quote
mjazzg Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 This is tough to read. Let's hope he finds some respite with his family and a recovery that enables him to enjoy life once more even if he can no longer play Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 21, 2016 Report Posted December 21, 2016 Just when the original goal was met, she doubled/extended it -- not surprising considering the costs of medical attention in this country & there's still time to donate. Quote
