with all the CTI talk, and since Mosaic Contemporary just reissued this, is this Benson worth getting? I already have what many of us consider his best CTI "Beyond the Blue Horizon", I noticed Creed contributed his awful tendency to overdub studio parts over live tracks (as is the case with my favorite CTI "CTI Summer Jazz At the Hollywood Bowl") is it worth getting for George's playing or better left alone?

Better left alone!!! I found a vinyl copy a couple weeks ago, and I won't say it's awful, but it has the worst version of "Summertime" I've ever heard. The playing is just flat all around. Save your money; I'm glad I got the vinyl cheap.

thanks gentlemen.

Ludicrous orchestral overdubbing on this one, avoid it. Better to get the Benson Live at the Casa Caribe material, available on many budget labels if you want live jazz from Benson. Look for something that has the full program, 2 CD's with a little over two hours of music on them. Most of the budget releases just cherry-pick tracks from the concert haphazardly to put on one CD. The live 'Weekend in LA', which came out out Warner Bros. in the late 70's is also pretty good. If you want more CTI Benson (assuming you already have the incredibe 'Beyond the Blue Horizon'). check out 'White Rabbit' and 'Body Talk' and 'Bad Benson'. (edit - 'Breezin', while neither live nor CTI, is an excellent album and belongs in every collection - it's already in a couple million of them, and for good reason. The other career highlight for Benson is his amazing version of "The World is a Ghetto", on the otherwise forgettable 'In Flight').

I had one of those boot Casa Caribe casettes when I was younger. full of burning playing. I will try to look for the 2 disc version, since I am very selective w/ Benson and have no interest in much of his pop/smooth stuff. I just usually stick to listening to the albums where he just really smokes. He is one of my all time fav. guitarists though

Trust me, Al, there have been far worse things done to that song. Be thankful you've not heard them. ;)

I am; believe me, I AM!!! :g
