JohnJ Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 By the way Young Boys has to be the worse name for a football team, can't help but think about a bunch of players being molested by their manager between games -Hey mate wanna play with the Young Boys - Huh think I'll pass (...) The fact that their stadium is called 'Wankdorf' doesn't help! This headline seems somewhat tounge in cheek. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=337901&cc=4716 Quote

I do agree but my little finger tells me that the group will offer the most compelling action . it will make up for some groups that offers on paper little interest , thinking of the group D and H and on a lesser level E unless Basel and Cluj (?) create a suprise. By the way La Liga and Serie A are starting their championships this weekend, plenty of action on the telly. Also Super Cup today. Edited August 27, 2010 by Van Basten II Quote

Van Basten II Posted August 28, 2010 Author Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Maybe not as glamorius but they are some fine matchups, too bad, can't see any of the action of this competition. Tv rights being owned by a network that my cable distributor does not offer. If the Super Cur was not that Super the football event of the day was Kaiserslautern winning their first game in 25 matches against Bayern Munich, they played agressively, physically their players going after the ball like a dog after a bit of meat on a bone. My picks of game to watch this weekend Saturday Lorient-Lyon For Gourcuff's debut with Lyon Sunday Hoffenheim-St Paul, Don't laugh they are actually the two leading teams after 1 game, Hoffenheim did a number on Bremen last week Barcelona_Racing David Villa's debut with Barça Real Madrid-Mallorca The genius with his new team Edited September 5, 2010 by Van Basten II Quote

B. Goren. Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Aston Villa 3, West Ham United 0. West Ham looks terrible. They have to wake up, otherwise they will spend most of the season in the relegation zone. Eh, it's only the first game of the season, relax a bit. :g Bolton 3, West Ham 1. I am relaxed. The problem is that West Ham's players are also relaxed. IIRC, their next games are Chelsea and Manchester United... 3rd game: Manchester United- West Ham 3:0. Nobody really expected West Ham to come back from Old Trafford with points in their pockets. Nest week: Man Un - Everton, West Ham - Chelsea. Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 29, 2010 Author Report Posted August 29, 2010 Lorient's attackers had a field day with Lyon central defence and another upset witnessed by yours truly as Gourcuff debut took a backseat to the very poor start of his new team. Quote

Van Basten II Posted August 29, 2010 Author Report Posted August 29, 2010 Ibrahimovic has joined AC Milan, guess that with David Villa Barça didn't need him anymore , with no Henry either wonder who will be brought in as it gets thinner on offense for them, rumours are that Robinho may leavr city to join the Catalan club. Didn't see the game but proof that Tottenham may have a hard time handling both competitions as they lost a game they should have won yesterday Quote

Van Basten II Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 Still on a at least one upset a day diet, Mourinho still has some work to do with his squad. Best debut of the weekend was David Villa who felt at ease quite fast in his new surroundings.St-Pauli's loss was a bit cruel, losing in the last minutes as they deserved a better fate Rare monday doubleheader as both teams who played in the Super Cup had an extra day to rest their squad, both games will be shown here Bologna will receive Inter and Atltico will host Sporting de Gijon. Van Basten II Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) Embarassing indeed, you did not expect the team to be collectively ready but you had to expect especially on home soil to see the more talented team prevailing, hats off to the visitors. Brad Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Friendly or no friendly, the Spanish loss to Argentina yesterday, 4-1, was an embarassment. Following the tie with Mexico, they better wake up and realize that as World Champions, everyone is going to be out try to beat them. Quote
