Cliff Englewood Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Is anybody as excited about tomorrow's USA/Mexico World Cup Qualifier as I am? These matches are always hard for me, having an american born mother and a mexican born father. But I love seeing the intense rivalry come to life through very physical play and rowdy fans. I'm predicting a mexico win, not only because its at Azteca Stadium, but Mexico is riding that wave right now. I'd quite like to see that game myself, local rivals and all that. :tophat: Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 It's all kicking off today, already interesting, Chelsea 1 - Hull City 1. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Chelsea 2 - Hull City 1, Chelsea snatch it in the last few minutes the bastards. Quote
sal Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 Arsenal was looking good. I'm dissappointed about Villa's loss. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 Arsenal was looking good. I'm dissappointed about Villa's loss. Not as disappointed as I was with Liverpool's defeat to Spurs, they just never got going and looked a bit disjointed, other than the Arsenal win, which in fairness was helped by Everton being completely shit, it was a bit of a damp squib of a first weekend of the season. Hope it gets better. :( Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 Saw the City-Blackburn game, quite a good game, maybe MC will be among the contenders. Saw the first twenty minutes of Tottenham-Liverpool and moved on to better things, guess the game picked up a bit but from the little i saw i could not be bothered watching the rest. Quote

Yea, you didn't really miss much from the Tottenham-Liverpool game. However Celtic v Arsenal tonight should be well worth watching. Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 Thanks for reminding me, almost forgot to program my DVR Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Thanks for reminding me, almost forgot to program my DVR You might not be so thankful after you watch it, it wasn't all that great, Arsenal definitely deserved to win but the 2 goals were very, very lucky. Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 The intensity of the game made for decent watching, but both goals were indeed on the ugly side, Celtic deserved a better fate from a defensive point of view but their lack of flair in attack doomed them. Recorded at the same time the playoff between Stuttgart and Timisoara , the Hleb goal was something else, hope you saw it on highlites. Today we can watch Atltico Madrid and Panathinaikos FC and Sofia-Debreceni. A new network brodcasts the games this year and they seem to be more motivated than the previous network. To the best of my knowledge it's the first time that playoffs before the actual Champions league are actually broadcasted in Canada Quote

A new network brodcasts the games this year and they seem to be more motivated than the previous network. To the best of my knowledge it's the first time that playoffs before the actual Champions league are actually broadcasted in Canada I think it's actually Panathinaikos vs Atletico Madrid, which is good because Greek crowds are usually nuts, I'm gonna watch it just because it's on and I want to have a look at Sergio Aguero and see if he's all that, as they say. Even though I should try and watch Liverpool – Stoke City somewhere, I'm still pissed off at Sunday's performance and I fear Stoke will just defend and make it difficult and worse still get a winning goal in the 89 minute or something. God I hate football. :tophat: Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Whoa great second half in the Panathinaikos vs Atletico Madrid game, I was just thinking I wouldn't pay 50 million for Aguero when he went and scored that goal, amazing. Also Liverpool winning 4 - 0 and United losing to Burnley, what a night. God I love football. Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 Both games were great the Sofia side was upset by the lesser known Hungarian side in a very entertaining game. French fans will be happy to notice that Lyon almost qualified by destroying Anderlecht 5-1. Quote
sal Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 God I love football. AMEN! Doesn't get any better Quote
sal Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) Man United just went apeshit on Wigan, with Rooney bagging his 100th and Michael Owen his 1st for the club. Game of the week is gonna have to be Liverpool vs. Aston Villa on Monday. Who are the Liverpool fans out there? My Villans are coming for you! Edited August 22, 2009 by sal Quote
B. Goren. Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Please correct me if I'm wrong: I think that the game of the next week is Arsenal Vs. Manchester United. I'm looking forward ti it... Quote

Took time to get in gear, they looked shite in the first half, if Wigan had any skills they would have blown them in the first half. Should watch Chelsea-Fulham later and the late Italian game, think it's Juventus-Chievo. On negative news our carrier won't broadcast the second leg of Atletico-Panathinaikos matchup Quote

Game of the week is gonna have to be Liverpool vs. Aston Villa on Monday. Who are the Liverpool fans out there? My Villans are coming for you! You mean like your Villans got us last season :D what was the score again, 5 - 0???, please can you get us again like that, please. :D Seriously though I'm not sure how this one will go I think Villa will try to keep it very tight as they won't want 3 loses on the trot but if John Carew is fit and on form he can be a real handful for any defence. I think if Liverpool get an early goal they will get all 3 points. I might have to try to watch it online as I'm not sure it's on over here I think ESPN have the rights to this game. There was a good article in the Irish Sunday Tribune about Martin O'Neill and Rafa Benitez, check it out here. Quote

Technically you're correct the Liverpool vs. Aston Villa game is really part of the weekend fixtures, it's actually Man Utd v Arsenal next Saturday, Utd have the old home advantage. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Oh dear Liverpool are 0 - 2 down at half time and I can't see them scoring 3 in the second half the way they're playing. At least sal is happy. Quote
sal Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 sal is very happy!! but this is Liverpool we're dealing with here. they're capable of anything, so I'm not getting too excited yet. Quote

I wouldn't worry if I was you, I've seen enough of these types of games to know how they'll end up. In fairness to Villa they are more organised than Liverpool but they were very lucky with the first goal and Liverpool were to busy moaning for the second. Gerrard is having a shocker, as is the rest of the midfield, but the captain especially. He keeps trying too many Hollywood passes and flicks and none of them have come off. Torres is completely isolated most of the time. I'm only watching it on shitty live streams on the PC so I don't know if I can stand to watch the second half. It looks like Liverpool will have lost as many games in the first 3 matchs of the season as they did in the whole of the last season. God I hate football. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Liverpool 1 - Aston Villa 3, what did I tell you. God I hate football. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Reo-Coker and Friedel were very good for Villa. Something is very wrong at Liverpool me thinks, none of the confidence of last season is there. Dark times ahead. Quote
