Don’t forget, I’m among the mostly tourist crowd. Guess how the Brits reacted to Argentina’s loss... With great regret? Quote

mjazzg Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Spain really should be strong enough, even without Iniesta, surely Quote

Brad Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I think the Russians will try to take this to penalties. That is the only way they will have things equal. Quote
mjazzg Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) And who can blame them. Spain seem to have no plan B. just as I type that Spain (Iniesta,of course) finally put one over the top for Aspas to chase, they need to mix it up a bit Edited July 1, 2018 by mjazzg Quote
mjazzg Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 apart from pass it prettily outside the the Russian box. Fabregas on UK TV asking why they still have two defensive midfielders on the pitch. Which is a very good question I'll still not be surprised if my favourite player doesn't score a winning header with 2 minutes left Quote
Brad Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) What a disappointment Edited July 1, 2018 by Brad Quote
mjazzg Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Well, another favourite falls and the competition gets more open. It's always the most cruel way to lose. Sad for Iniesta, his last competition Quote
Brad Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 It's a bitter pill but they didn't really play well in the World Cup, except for the first match. I feel bad for Iniesta. What a way to go out, especially when they dominated the game. Not a bloody goal was scored from the field in this match. The PK loss to South Korea in 2002 was more disappointing but this one is close behind. Quote
mandrill Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) До свидания, España! Gritty win by Russians- probably the only way they could pull it off. Glad Spain is out- their game is unbearable to watch. 1000+ passes = 5 shots on goal hardly makes a winning formula. Edited July 1, 2018 by mandrill Quote
uli Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) Glad for the Russian team i think it;s good for the atmosphere of the tourney if the host country wins, damn, 4 minutes and two goals alredy. Edited July 1, 2018 by uli Quote
mandrill Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 What a start to Croatia- Denmark game. 1:1 after only 4 minutes of play. Quote
Brad Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 More action in this match than 120 of the prior one. Quote
Dmitry Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 At least now we know that Pique is one hell of a volleyball player. The mood in Madrid is somber. Quote

Brad Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Marca ran a poll to see what readers thought and other than Isco most players received the equivalent of Cs or D. The Coach received a D; he was put in an impossible position. More than half thought the decision to replace Lopetegui was the reason they were eliminated. Voted as the worst of Spain were the goalie and the inability to create scoring chances. Defense came in a distant third. Quote
mjazzg Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 I'm looking forward to Mexico blowing the competition even wider open this afternoon Quote
