sidewinder Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Somehow it's hard for me to imagine this being anywhere as interesting as the Garrick/Winstone collaborations. But that's just me... For sure this album is no masterpiece but the jazz content is way better than expected and I find the strange mix of genres to be interesting. The Garrick stuff came to mind (things like 'Jazz Praises From St Pauls' and 'Mr Smith's Apocalypse') as they offer a similar mixture of jazz and liturgy - although in the case of Garrick from an Anglican/C. of E. angle. Incidentally, the vinyl sound that Trunk have achieved is surprisingly good, seeing as though they didn't have master tapes (lost I guess) and the reissue is transferred from a (non-mint) LP. They've done a great job. Garrick and Norma have been touring a reunion of the Garrick 60s sextet quite recently by the way - with the 'Troppo' lineup. I had a ticket for the BBC performance but had to miss it . Should be on the radio soon. Edited July 10, 2008 by sidewinder Quote
