Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Seen this oop one pop up on ebay about a dozen times now over the past 3 or 4 months and I've noticed that it consistently sells for a pretty penny (the one sitting there now is up over $90.00). Is this just a collector 'thing' ......or simply some unbelievable 'must have' music? Quote
Chas Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 (edited) Don't know if you're a vocal fan Rolf , but if you are , then I would recommend this album . Had Ethel done what Billie did , and left Baltimore , she would be much better known today . Ethel possesses a lovely voice , and stylistically is closer to Sassy than to Billie . Lullabys For Losers has a moody after-hours feel , with Ethel's languid phrasing perfectly suited to the emotion behind the lyrics . The ever-tasteful Hank Jones is on piano . Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 9, 2007 Author Report Posted July 9, 2007 Okay, thanks Chas. Since casting out the net and soliciting suggestions re: fem vocalists in a thread about 6 months ago, I've actually been listening to a good bit of the ladies lately -- Ruth Price, Bev Kelly, Irene Krall (thanks 'D' ), Blossom Dearie, Anita O'Day, Sarah Vaughan and a couple others. If Hank Jones is on board, I'm real interested! Quote
Kalo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Sounds intriguing, but not $90.00+ intriguing. Quote
Kalo Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Is ANY album worth $90? I've known people whose entire collections weren't worth $90! Quote
