Marty Ehrlich "Line On Love"?

"MARTY EHRLICH - Line on Love (Palmetto 2015) Featuring Marty on alto

sax & bass clarinet, Craig Taborn on acoustic piano, Michael Formanek

on contrabass and Billy Drummond on drums. This is the second superb

release from Marty's current quartet and once again it deals with his

more refined and immensely lyrical side. Marty's exquisite writing

and pure, rich and haunting tone on sax and bass clarinet, have never

sounded better. He has chosen the perfect rhythm team to make this

effort all the more magical and sublimely transcendent. On "Hymn",

Craig repeats just four hypnotic notes as Marty floats above sailing

on the wind. "Like I Said" is a majestic and powerful piece, with

the great rhythm team burning below as Marty soars high above with

Michael taking the first great and inspired bass solo. On the title

track, Craig plays some of the finest, richest and most riveting

piano I've heard him play, slowly building to a enchanting conclusion

while Marty's sax reaches deep to unleash his pure, crying tone. The

quartet swings hard and quick on "Julian's Theme" which burns

profusely, the bass and drums pushing and pulling the powerful

current, but then play tight fractured rhythms during the great

swirling piano solo. 'Line on Love' is a most refreshing and

exquisite gem on all counts and one of the elegant releases of the

year so far. "
