jmjk Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Any recs on where is the best place to buy these? DustyGroove? Red Trumpet? Who is most reliable in turnaround time and best in price? Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Hiroshi Tanno EARLY RECORDS His delivery to the east coast is about 5-7 days max and the prices are a few bucks less per disc than DGA with shipping. Easy w/ PayPal. Packed with perfection!! I've only taken 'Judgement! + 1' from the list. It is great sonically- a bit more tape hiss on some of the extremely silent parts but seems to whip the older issue as that one was laid down to laser at an extremely low volume. Plus it's the essential Hill IMB. Quote
David Ayers Posted September 5, 2003 Author Report Posted September 5, 2003 Well for sure http://www.earlyrecords.com is your best bet. You can communicate with Hiroshi Tanno by email and pay by paypal. He can order in any in print item, but remember that titles go OP fast in Japan. His shipping charges are certainly the lowest. bertrand Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Who is Ronnie Smith? Bertrand. Quote
Soul Stream Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Dustrygroove has gotten some of these in.... However, I'm confused. At Dustygroove, they list, for instance "The Way I Feel" as a 'Japanese Paper Sleeve', is this a JRVG or a Tocj with a different cover? I've got the Tocj, but might go for a RVG version. Thanks in advance. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Ronnie Smith. . . I think he's related to Raurence Brown. Quote
catesta Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Sorry I can't help myself, must laugh. Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Ray Mizutani, at Mundo, is my Japanese connection. He, also, can get anything that's in print, and he also has a website http://www.mediawars.ne.jp/~mundo/cdjapan/link.html Note that, on this website, Ronnie Smith is listed under L for Ronnie, rather than S. David Ayers Posted September 5, 2003 Author Report Posted September 5, 2003 Shrdlu I think early records has lower prices and charges less shipping - am I worng? Soul Stream The BN titles listed at DG as in paper sleeve are the JRVGs. Quote
jacknife Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 (edited) Another vote for Hiroshi at Early Records Good prices, cheap and fast shipping and great communication! I sent him an email asking about a couple of 3 Sounds cds that were not listed on the website and within a few days he replied that he had got them and shipped them to me. Awesome service! He will get a lot more of my business. I just received Duke Pearson - Sweet Honey Bee, sounds fantastic to me but I've never heard any of the other versions. So, what are some recommedations from the above list? Edited September 6, 2003 by jacknife Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 (edited) Shrdlu I think early records has lower prices and charges less shipping - am I worng? Soul Stream That's right - Hiroshi Tanno / Early Records' prices and shipping rates are dramatically lower that Ray Mizutani / Mundo's. Edited September 5, 2003 by J.A.W. Quote
kumakuma Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Another vote for Tanno-san @ Early Records. Friendly, quick to respond to email messages, and low shipping rates (I believe he simply passes along what the Japanese PO charges him). Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 (I believe he simply passes along what the Japanese PO charges him). He does. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 ...and another vote of thanks for Hans who's hipped many a BBer to Mr. Tanno! Might the rabid collectors hoist J.A.W. upon their shoulders like Kramer did Lombardi. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Might the rabid collectors hoist J.A.W. upon their shoulders like Kramer did Lombardi. Hhmmm, I was sort of thinking that those of us who've since been reduced to poverty thanks to Tanno's JRVG Depot might want to repay Hans by 'hoisting' him up in the town square the way the Italian citizens did Mussolini!
