Teasing the Korean
I've got that one and paid a buck or two for it. You'll like it.
The Magnificent Goldberg
I got that in the early '70s, but flogged it when I was poor. Regretted it ever since. MG
Late
It's a good album, but Pharoah is fairly reined in. Don't expect too many fireworks.

clifford_thornton
No kidding. I used to have it on an Up Front LP, but traded it away for something probably equally or less invigorating.
Teasing the Korean
There are also at least 2 issues of the LP, one of which is abridged.
RDK
There are also at least 2 issues of the LP, one of which is abridged. You mean they trimmed it down to a quintet?

Yeah, an 18 man quintet as opposed to the the 19 piece sextet listed above!

The Magnificent Goldberg
There are also at least 2 issues of the LP, one of which is abridged. I didn't know that. I had the one on Trip. Was that the abridged version? MG
Teasing the Korean
The issue on the Up Front label has 6 tracks. The Trip issue has 8 tracks. Was it ever out before Trip? That was a budget label related to Springboard, wasn't it?
The Magnificent Goldberg
The issue on the Up Front label has 6 tracks. The Trip issue has 8 tracks. Was it ever out before Trip? That was a budget label related to Springboard, wasn't it? Most Trips were reissues. But there are a few Willis Jacksons, a Randy Weston and this, that I'm pretty sure were never out before. No doubt there were others. The sleeves say the label was a division of Springboard Int. MG
mikeweil
I know of an LP issue Phoenix LP PLP-8008 - no idea if that was the first, but it's the same issue number as the Trip and has all 8 tracks.

Pharoah Speak The above is a collective personnel listing taken from the first issue of these tracks on the Trip label. Amalbert, Jones, Patterson, Ellington, and Derrick are listed as members of the Latin Jazz Quintet, all others as guests. Other than this personnel listing the back cover or labels do not show composer credits nor track timings - the composer credits are from http://members.aol.com/ishorst/love/discsand.html except for the Sierra Madre theme and Ray Bryant's tune. Place and date of this session are unknown. Some sources claim it was Pharoah Sanders' first recording session, which would date it in the second half of 1962, before his first session for ESP (January 4, 1963) and after the Latin Jazz Quintet's last for Prestige (April 20, 1962). Its first release on LP was ca. 1971. The two tracks on the 45rpm single, released as "Juan Amalbert And His Band probably are from this session. Track f titled Brok'tit Off In Harlem on the 45 rpm issue. Edited September 29, 2020 by mikeweil
