The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 In what sense is thirty year old music 'contemporary'???? Don't get me wrong though: I TOTALLY get it. I am READY! This gets my vote as "post of the year"! MG Quote
JSngry Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 The only "Contemporary" title I've bought is Freddie Hubbard's "Super Blue" - and, using the web site's search function, I couldn't find it. Deleted already? http://www.mosaiccontemporary.com/albums.asp Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 How is that Ogermann/Brecker album? Quote
NaturalSoul Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Nothing I really want on there except maybe the King Curtis. My first reaction is "sad" but, like Hans, as long as it pays the bills for the hardcore stuff, I have no complaints. What King Curtis is that, Brad? It'd be a damn sight more interesting than what's on the website. MG it's 'Live At Fillmore West' Quote
sidewinder Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 seems this place must have just about the highest density of Mosaic customers... ;-) Swiss bankers? Quote

OK - that is a worthwhile reissue. But contemporary? No more contemporary than Teddy Edwards' "Heart & soul" - well, not MUCH more. MG Quote

MG You gotta keep in mind that time in the JazzCave moves at a veeeeeeeeeeeeery slow pace... Yeah. It's also true that you can trace back from Gerald Allbright to Grover Washington Jr to King Curtis (and then Big Jay McNeely, Illinois Jacquet, Lester Young) - but... If Mosaic Contemporary actually thought about the possibilities, they might see that some of these contemporary musicians, upon whom much scorn is poured, can actually play, but don't make all that much money when they do. Therefore they don't do it all that often. So giving them an opportunity to do so might make some money for Mosaic and might be welcome to the musicians (even though they're contracted elsewhere - as James Brown was, but still made jazz albums for Smash).
