Has anyone here seen him live in the last few years. www.edinburghjazzfestival.co.uk Yes, he's definitely worth seeing. Still a potent force on the tenor ! Caught his show at NorthSea last year, a tribute to his old friend Clifford Brown. Worth also checcking him out on the move 'The Terminal' - if you can get hold of a copy of the DVD. Quote
alan2306 Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 I'll book a couple of tickets. It may be my only chance to see the great man. Quote
jlhoots Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I've seen him live within the last year. He was fine. Quote

Loads of good stuff this year at EIJF including Bad Plus, Happy Apple, Bad Apple , Phil Bancroft etc ...even a bad ass dude in turban playing a B3... Quote
birdanddizzy Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Has anyone here seen him live in the last few years. He was in Paris last november and played fantastically. His sound is maybe not as 'strong' as in the past but he is still a master... Here is a photo of the concert at the Unesco in Paris last november : Claus Reichstaller (tp), Maurice Brown (tp), Benny Golson (sax), Nathan David (sax) Quote
sheldonm Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I've seen him a few times in the past couple years.....always good! m~ Quote
Larry Kart Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Last time I saw him live was last year, I think. He was in fine form. You really need to hear him live and close up at least once because his sound is so rich and complex and such a big part of his overall concept -- hearing Golson in the flesh probably would add a good deal to your sense of him, even if you know a lot of his recordings. ghost of miles Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 I've seen him a few times in the past couple years.....always good! m~ Yes, I was at one of those shows with you--thanks for holding the great seats! Definitely go see Benny; it's incredible, if nothing else, simply to hear him perform something like "I Remember Clifford" or "Along Came Betty" live. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 At Northsea tonight: Benny is playing with Griff, Reggie Johnson, Kirk Lightsey and Doug Sides right after us .(Vanguard Jazz Orchestra) tonight. Earlier - Steely Dan. Should be a great night. Quote

White Lightning Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Caught him in Tel Aviv on April 2006, with his "We remember clifford" Group. with Randy Brecker(tp); Eddie Henderson(tp, fhrn); Mike LeDonne(p); Buster Williams(b); Al Foster(d) Golson was ok, not great. I wish he played as much as he talked. The trumpeters outshone him for sure. here are some Golson pics from that gig: Quote
