This take on the tune has gotta be another example into the man's genius. What the hell is going on in the way he plays the head?! That and Donald Bailey's horsehoofs galloping stuff on the rim and tom, gives the whole thing an odd time feel makes it sound like he's in half time even tho it's a medium-up swing in the solos.

That's one of the greatest organ record tunes ever captured on tape. And yeah, you're right...that head is just pure genius. What Jimmy's doing on that is still mind boggling 47 years later.

I wanna hear Joey do something with that arrangement. Really, what sort of a freakish mind do you gotta have with the head being played in that such weird way. I know local musicians who probably haven't heard that take on it.

Definitely...but not only this tune .Sonnymoon for two, Johnny comes marchin' home, What's new are astonishing.

Actually, this was my first JOS lp bought in 1962 : it started a buying frenzy of organ records that is still there today.

On top of my JOS list, together with Groovin' at Small's, Bashin'.Glad to read those gems are not forgotten!

Crazy Baby was my first Jimmy Smith lp too

It was the first time I realized bass could be played on the organ. Jimmy (and McDuff) were big influences on my Fender bass playing.
