jazzbo
I like quite a bit of their work. A band I was in actually did one of the songs, "Kingdom of Heaven." I met Rocky at a party in our house probably 20 years ago now. He lived in the neighborhood then. Umm. . . spacey dude. . . did not impress me in person. That would have been pretty close to the time he went through electro-shock, wouldn't it? That would explain a lot... Maybe, I don't know the chronology. Okay, did some reading and it looks as if I met him about a decade after the electro shock therapy.
J Larsen
(Q: did you know at the time that Watt was doing a cover w/"Bermuda" on the Minutemen's 3-Way Tie For Last? No - I'll have to check that out tonight - thanks. The 13th Floor Elevators are one of the few standouts in the generally bleak musical history of the Bay Area. A couple good things have come out of my hometown, but disproportionately little.
clifford_thornton
Thanks for the read, Clem. Easter Everywhere is a favorite. I saw him perform a Kinky Freidman function, and was unimpressed - but that's coming from someone who has spent little time with his solo career. I run into Sumner every once in a while - last time at the post office - nice guy, and apparently he has custody of Roky, if I am not mistaken. Oh, and a friend of mine from wayback had Roky as his supposed godfather; his dad and Roky were close back in California. Weird scene. catesta
tho' imperfect, the recent two-cd antho on Shout Factory! is very worthwhile; take me out to dinner in, say, Ridgewood, Catesta, & i'll hook you up w/the dvds. No doubt you have a place in mind. I'll drop you a line when the schedule settles down.
