JSngry Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 ...that I've never heard the name. But apparently I should have, since I received the e-mail from a friend. I Googled KALIL MADI, thinking that perhaps I knew him under another name, but apparently not. I did learn though, that he took Bill Dowdy's place in The Three Sounds. Anyways... JohnS Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) Lord lists him on a few sessions. The only one I have is the Sadik Hakim on Charlie Parker Records. The most interesting is the unissued Hassan Ibn Ali on Atlantic Edited June 8, 2007 by JohnS Quote
mikeweil Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) I have one or two Earl Hines LPs with him. IIRC he's on some of Mongo Santamaria's Riverside material as well. Looked it up - none less than the Watermelon Man studio session! Yes, and Roland Kirk's Blacknuss. Solid drummer, good groove. R.I.P. Edited June 8, 2007 by mikeweil Quote
Dan Gould Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 ...that I've never heard the name. But apparently I should have, since I received the e-mail from a friend. I Googled KALIL MADI, thinking that perhaps I knew him under another name, but apparently not. I did learn though, that he took Bill Dowdy's place in The Three Sounds. That would put him on the Vibrations LP, which was the first one with Gene Harris doubling on organ. Leonard Feather's liners identify him as being from Cleveland, playing with Erskine Hawkins and Cootie Williams and later working with Red Garland, Randy Weston and "several prominent singers". RIP. Yes, and Roland Kirk's Blacknuss. Solid drummer, good groove. He seems to be listed as either Khalil Mhrdi or Khalil Mhridri on Blacknuss, dependent on what source you're using. Whatever the case, I'm sorry to hear this news. Edited June 8, 2007 by ep1str0phy Quote
mikeweil Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Khalil Mhrdi it is spelled in the credits of Blacknuss. The Earl Hines are the one on MPS and the other LP with Marva Josie - seems I sold both. Quote

He's also on the Hines Prestige LP "Boogie Woogie on St. Louis Blues", recorded in 1969 but issued only in 1982. luca Quote
