Guy Berger Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Somebody posted the following to AAJ: The June 11/18 issue of New Yorker reports in their announcement of the latest David Murray gig that Black Saint is 'defunct'. Has their legendary fact checking department messed up yet again? I really hope this is a screwup on the part of The New Yorker -- can anybody dispel or (gulp) confirm this rumor? Guy Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 There was just a writeup on the label, interviewing its founder, in a recent AAJ/NY. Nothing of the sort was mentioned. Quote

Nate Dorward Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 A few years back there was talk of BS/SN going under, but it didn't happen (I don't know the details of what saved the labels). Perhaps they had outdated information. Or else (god forbid) the labels are in trouble again. Quote
brownie Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Nothing much happening on their website! Quote
Guy Berger Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 Nothing much happening on their website! Brownie, can't you go to their headquarters and check things out? I thought Italy was just down the street from you. Guy Quote

paul secor Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Just sent an e-mail to Cadence. The last I knew, they distributed Black Saint, so they should know something about this. Quote
paul secor Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Someone with the user name blacksaint is on line right now. Perhaps they can set us straight. Quote
AndrewHill Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Its hard enough to find their titles, besides going through Cadence. The last time (and one of the few times) I've seen a BS title in a store was at the Tower going out of business sale in Chicago: a very shop-worn, case-cracked copy of Threadgill's Spirit of Nuff Nuff (Which I bought). CD Now never seems to have their titles in stock except through Amazon Market Place at collector's prices. Quote
paul secor Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Got a reply from Cadence on my Black Saint defunt query - "Not to our knowledge." Quote

kh1958 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) When I was at the Downtown Music Gallery a couple of weeks ago, they had a large stock of Black Saint/Soul Note CDs--for $16 each or five or more for $15 each. http://www.downtownmusicgallery.com/Main/index.htm Edited June 7, 2007 by kh1958 Quote
