brownie Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Amazon.fr is currently selling a number of items from the Universal France Bandes Originales de Films series. €8,99 a CD. The List. Some of those CDs have jazz interest: 'Le Choix des Armes' has Ron Carter/Buster Williams bass contributions, 'Beau-Père' has Stephane Grappelli, Eddy Louiss, Maurice Vander, Pierre Michelor and Kenny Clarke, 'Les Félins' has music by Lalo Schiffrin, 'Mort d'un Pourri' has contributions by Stan Getz, 'A Bout de Souffle', has the music from Martial Solal, 'La Métamorphose des Cloportes', has the music from Jimmy Smith, etc... Kalo Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 I like what I've heard from this series and own several of them. A Bout de Souffle is recommended to Martial Solal fans as well as to fans of good soundtracks. The Jimmy Smith is cool, too. Dusty Groove deals these at good prices in the U.S. Quote
brownie Posted June 1, 2007 Author Report Posted June 1, 2007 The soundtrack to the 1990 Bertrand Tavernier film 'Daddy Nostalgie' is not part of this series but it has recently been reissued by Sony France. The name of Jimmy Rowles does not appear on the cover but fans of him should note that he is featured on five of the eleven tracks. His contributions are invaluable. Other musicians heard on this sountrack album include Louis Sclavis, Jacques Di Donato, Philip Catherine and Ron Carter. Wish music composer Antoine Duhamel and Tavernier has used Pierre Michelot instead of Ron Carter! Quote
king ubu Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Tavernier has good soundtracks often! I have Henri Texier's "Holy Lola" soundtrack on CD - very nice one! I ordered five of the six you pointed out, brownie (took a pass on the Schifrin), thanks! Quote
brownie Posted June 1, 2007 Author Report Posted June 1, 2007 I ordered five of the six you pointed out, brownie (took a pass on the Schifrin), thanks! One to get - if you have not done so already - is the Philippe Sarde 'Princesses/Un Frere' CD from the same series. It is not part of the discounted discs. The music is played by John Lewis, Milt Jackson, Ron Carter and Wayne Shorter among others! Quote

(I also still need a few of the most recent Vogues, namely the Nelson Williams and the Cohn/Renaud, as well as all of th new JiP discs... too much for now!) Quote
