Jazzmoose Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 (edited) What do you think? No comment from myself to start it off, just curious about reactions here (to the song clip, not the story). Edited May 29, 2007 by Jazzmoose Quote
jazzbo Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 What do you think? No comment from myself to start it off, just curious about reactions here (to the song clip, not the story). She's smart. She's keeping her day job! Quote
jazzbo Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 I confess, I listened to only half the song. . . . It was "okay" but just that, for me. Quote
MoGrubb Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 (edited) Great bari player, nice cleavage, good chart but the band's kinda stiff, good song idea, good singing, good video, it follows a logically visual story line. Edited May 29, 2007 by MoGrubb Quote
Matthew Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Just my opinion but I thought it was terrible. No individuality to it, but I guess she's eighteen, so what did I expect. No wonder EMI is going under wasting $1.5 million on her. Whose going to buy her cd? There's so many female vocalist that sound just like her, nothing stands out in her singing. Oh well, she'll be marketed as the jazz saviour, first cd out on Blue Note no doubt... Quote
Stereojack Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 I liked the song better than I liked the singer. Nice chart! Quote
paul secor Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 If EMI, Universal, and BMG were in a bidding war over her, no wonder the majors are in trouble. Then again, what do I know about the public's taste? - not a damn thing. She'll probably end up as the new Norah Jones. Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 She looks more like a page 3 girl than a jazz "singer" and its a fucked up world if that's what she is about to become. Quote

Aggie87 Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 "My style is like Ella Fitzgerald or Aretha Franklin" Aww c'mon, don't you confuse them constantly like I do? Quote
Ron S Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 "My style is like Ella Fitzgerald or Aretha Franklin" Aww c'mon, don't you confuse them constantly like I do? One thing's for sure (at least based on the one song): I'd never confuse her with either of them. Quote
JSngry Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 She's like Jane Monheit with the jazz removed... (yeah, I'm as surprised as anybody... ) Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Once upon a time in Richmond, you could see the Yardbirds on Saturday nights. MG Quote

"Young Lions" sounds like a jazz thing, I doubt that Ms. Hart will be in the same circuit. She'll probably be booked as young, for the young and those that are obsessed with staying young. Quote
JSngry Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Anybody who's "obseesed with staying young" and falls for this bullshit deserves whatever they get. The best way to stay young, I think, is to go ahead and get older than you used to be w/o getting bummed or scared about it while still keeping your mind open to evolution. This rot runs counter to every one of those principles. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 30, 2007 Author Report Posted May 30, 2007 If EMI, Universal, and BMG were in a bidding war over her, no wonder the majors are in trouble. That was my reaction to the story...they've got to be kidding. As for the performance, I kind of had this "well, it's nice that someone is trying, but..." feeling. Kind of like me diving. It's nice to see the attempt, but hoo boy... Quote
