Jazzin'D92 Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Can anyone name me some jazz artists or albums I should listen to. I just made one of my school's top jazz bands and wanna get into some more jazz, like listenin to solos and stuff like that. If you can reccomend something that would be fantastic. By the way I'm doing very well, both musically and with life. I hope everyone is well, and look forward to talking to you more now that I'm on summer vacation woot woot!!!! Love, Danielle Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Try Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor and move on. Good luck. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 I recommend something easy that you might be able to pick up on one of your instruments. Consider the Gerry Mulligan Quartet with Chet Baker ca. 1953, and Thelonious Monk on Riverside ca. 1958. Congratulations on making your band, Danielle! Quote

Some of the first jazz cds I bought was Time Out by Dave Brubeck, Jazz Impressions of a Black Orpheus by Vince Guaraldi and Search for the New Land by Lee Morgan. Congrats! HG Quote
GA Russell Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Danielle, now that I think about it... Antonio Carlos Jobim's bossa nova songs should be easy for you to pick up on your horn or flute. I suggest Stan Getz's album Getz/Gilberto. Quote
